Greg Collett, a graduate of George Washington University Law School, recently stepped down as a director at Deutsche Bank, where he developed and managed the bank's exchange traded commodity fund business.
Before his work at Deutsche Bank, Collett had experience as a legislative aide to a New Jersey state senator and on various campaigns.
Collett had previously been involved with Harrison's campaign in a fundraising capacity.
Also, longtime Harrison volunteer David Hernandez, a Staten Island resident and a member of the Richmond County Democratic Committee, is the campaign's new field coordinator.

Steve Harrison based on his performance in 2006, where he did better against Vito Fossella than any other candidate and his non-stop effort to build name-recognition within the district over the past two years, has earned him the support of the vast majority of Democrats within the district.

On Monday the Democratic Organization of the County of Richmond (DOCR) voted to give Steve Harrison their endorsement. 88% of the DOCR members voted for Steve Harrison.

Mr. Fossella criticized the Democrats for not voting to extend the changes to the FISA law, which Congress had passed in August but which is due to expire in the beginning of February.
However, Mr. Fossella failed to mention that the House had passed an update to FISA on November 15th. Could it be that he did not want to mention the bill that passed in November because he voted against it?

Under current law multi-national conglomerates are permitted to stake mining claims on federal lands in the 11 western states and Alaska and to produce valuable hardrock minerals such as gold, silver, and copper without paying any royalty to the public. Further, the law contains no mining and reclamation standards, and provides for claimed lands to be sold for between $2.50 and $5.00 an acre.

The bill would also impose new environmental requirements on the mining industry and allow states and Indian tribes to petition the Interior Department to withdraw sensitive lands from mining. In addition, the legislation would dedicate some of the revenue from royalty payments to cleaning up abandoned mines that pose safety and environmental hazards. Two-thirds of the royalties collected would go toward reclamation, with the rest used to assist areas where hard-rock mining is important to the local economy.

Provides $13 billion to accelerate the implementation of the Next Generation Air Transportation System, enabling FAA to repair and replace existing facilities and equipment, and for implementing high-priority safety-related systems.
Increases the number of aviation safety inspectors by more than one-third, and strengthens efforts to reduce runway incursions.
Requires airlines and airports to have emergency contingency plans to take care of passengers who are involved in long flight and tarmac delays, including plans on deplaning after a lengthy delay. These plans must account for the provision of food, water, clean restrooms and medical care for passengers.
Directs the FAA to meet with airports to ensure reductions in the numbers of flights in situations where over-scheduling is causing chronic delays.
Requires the Secretary to collect and publish monthly data on cancelled and diverted flights on the DOT website.
Contains provisions to reduce global warming, including to the development of cleaner, quieter, more efficient engines and aircraft, a pilot program to reduce idling times for aircraft, and a pilot program to apply promising environmental research at airports.
Requires the FAA and National Air Traffic Controllers Association go to independent binding arbitration to resolve a contract dispute. Finally, it would ensure that employees of express carriers who do the same types of jobs are covered under the same labor laws (the National Labor Relations Act rather than the Railway Labor Act.

On Wednesday August 1st, Congressman Fossella voted against the Childrens' Health and Medicare Protection Act of 2007. (H.R. 3162 - Rol Call Vote 787). This legislation will give an additional 6 million children healthcare coverage.
On Thursday August 2nd, he voted against the Ensuring Military Readiness Through Stability and Predictability Deployment Policy Act (H.R. 3159 - Roll Call Vote 796). This legislation would require that active-duty troops receive a rest period equal to their deployment period and members of the National Guard and Reserves to receive a rest period equal to three times their deployment period.

On Friday August 3rd, he voted in favor of legislation that would have prevented the import of prescription drugs. (H. AMDT 734, H.R. 3161 - Roll Call Vote 806)
On Saturday August 4th, he voted against the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Act of 2007 (H.R. 2776 - Roll Call 836). This legislation would require most utilities to produce 15% of their enegry through renewable sources, require increased energy efficiency of appliances and buildings and repeal the $16 billion in tax breaks for the oil industry.

This legislation requires that our troops begin withdrawing from Iraq no later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act and that the reduction and transition to a limited presence in Iraq be completed by no later than April 1, 2008.

The legislation required the President to submit to Congress by January 1, 2008, a comprehensive U.S. strategy for Iraq including the costs and rational for keeping a limited military presence in Iraq after April 1st.
The legislation did specify several reasons for keeping a limited number of troops in Iraq, including, to protect U.S. facilities and citizens and to disrupt and eliminate al-Qaeda operations.
