Paterson could win (emphasis on "could")The election for governor is less than a year away, and the primary for the Democratic nomination is even closer, and Andrew Cuomo has still not decided to run. Many of my Demoratic friends are worried this means an easy Republican victory against Gov. Paterson. Not so. The only announced Republican candidate, is former congressman Rick Lazio, who in politics is compared to someone who subsitutes a Saturday talk show host. Paterson could theoretically beat him based on name recognition. Whether Paterson's victory will be good for the state of New York is a different question. Overall I give Paterson a 'B'. All the problems that are happening in Albany, is because of the bickering stupidity of the state legislator. Gov. Paterson is the only one in Albany who is working hard to solve our budget crisis. I'll be the first to tell you, I don't want him to run. The poll numbers are not his fault. To paraphrase Eliot Spitzer, "When a governor is so unpopular, the people are angry at the wrong person". New Yorkers should be angry at the last presidential administration, not at Gov. Paterson. New York Democrats must back Paterson if he is nominated. Or we might make the New Jersey mistake.
Yes poll numbers would improve for him. After the NYC Mayor results, 1. I regreted not going hard for Thompson, and 2. never to trust polls. Though I doubt NYT and DN would endorse the Republican candidate. But I would vote for Paterson over Cuomo, even though Cuomo would be a sure victory. There is no reason not to vote for Paterson, he's the only one who is actually doing something in Albany.
i'm going with pat; #1 he kicked kennedy in the ass; #2 he's actually doing something (a little something) about the state budget deficit; #3 the cuomo family already f'ed up the state once; #4 if pat wants to clinch it, redo the name of the triboro bridge to the triboro bridge. go pat go.

It is amazing that people still rely on stale poll numbers to predict Paterson's future chances. Those polls took place last summer -- during and in the aftermath of that infamous Senate coup. (Paterson's leadership strength emerged when he named Richard Ravitch as Lt. Gov., which effectively ended Espada's mutiny.)
No one has the guts to conduct a poll now. The results will not fit the political narrative they are trying to craft. (Remember Bloombucks' predicted blowout?)
Paterson has been making an end run around the Unholy Trinity (the NYTimes, Post, and DN that colluded with Bloomberg on term limits, destroying any illusion of credibility they might have had.) The Governor has been taking his message directly to the people -- either in person or through the diversity of media in NYS. The Unholy Trinity has sobered up -- if only for the moment.
Any new poll that is conducted fairly will produce different results.
