Pre-Election Republican Post-Mortem (Beyond "Blame Pataki")

The Republicans lost big. Even a knowing dishonest Democrat (with worse offenses than either Clarence Norman or Guy Velella) got re-elected easily. Blame Pataki? Today's New York Post thinks so.

What about Joe Bruno? Surely, he shares the blame for New York State going down the tubes? It's time to remember one simple formula for government:

Republicans=Democrats=Special Interests.

Yes, there are (and should be) some differences between Republicans and Democrats. I believe that Republicans (post 9-11) are better for national security. In theory (though not in practice), Republicans are for smaller government, balanced budgets, and pro-business. If any party can fight the special interests and the pension bomb that's destroying New York State, it should (in theory) be the Republicans. Union money tends to go to Democrats.

In practice, Republicans=Democrats=Special Interests. The Joe Bruno Republicans--all that's left--are not Republicans. They're pods. They may say they're Republican, and occasionally they'll talk like Republicans, but then they'll vote unanimously for the agenda of the United Federation of Teachers.

New York Republicans need their own "Day One," their own "Contract with America." It's got to bring up the statistics that Larry Littlefield (Room Eight) and E. J. McMahon (Manhattan Institute) have shown for so very long. It's got to say these are the causes, and these are the solutions.

That's not going to come from George Pataki.

That's not going to come from Joe Bruno.

That's not going to come from Steve ("Weekend at Bernie's") Minarik, who should be replaced as soon as possible.

It's only going to come from what's left of Republicans, and the media (New York Sun, New York Post) that still cares about the party values that do not solely include special interests.

The Republican "Day One"--A Contract for New York.

Get to it!

The pension funds you continually rank on (someone else's pension funds) are more solvent than the New York Post, in the Holy Private Sector.  I thought you were moving to Florida or somewhere in God's Country becaue New York disappointed you so.

Did you hear that John McCain stated that he invented the question mark? Do you think that he suffers from Alzheimers?
