Friends in High PlacesI spent a fair amount of time last cycle trying to figure out why 1199 invested so much money, energy, and talent in the Cuomo campaign, developing (and having shot down) complicated theories about the AG's role in healthcare privatizations and conversions. But what the Matthieu Eugene mess shows is that when a special interest plays a crucial role in electing an official, the payback comes in all sorts of unexpected ways. It's just good to have a friend in public office. Here, Chris Quinn has evidently referred the residency question facing Eugene (the 1199 candidate in the race) to the office of Attorney General Cuomo. (Why? Why not?) So don't hold your breath for that re-vote.
Don't be surprised if Dr. Eugene forgets that 1199 got him elected. The Dr. can't even remember when he moved into his Argyle Rd. apartment in the 40th District. It wasn't by the 19th when he was interviewed by Brian Lehrer, but he claims it was before the 2/20 election. If Dr. Eugene is confused about this - so am I.
Eugene should resign now. Oops he can not he has not been sworn in yet. The people of that district need to remember this in September when he gets a Primary. One more thing there is a rumor that the Board of Elections is investigating the status of citizens that voted for Eugene, great job. You have disenfranchised an enitre community. Ben you insult Andrew Cuomo! Why not give the man the benefit of the doubt that as attorney general he won't play politics? He's just gotten in office and already you assume he's going to rule not based on the law but based on the fact that Eugene and he have common political allies. You are way too cynical. I am sure Cuomo wants to make an honest decision based on correct interpretation of the law(s), and as the state's lawyer he is the person Quinn should have appealed this to.
It was Scott Levinson who partner is the brother of 1199 Political Director Patrict Gaspar who was directing NY! reporter Scotto on Sunday around Eugene's apartment. Eugene told the NY1 reporter did he did not have the deed but he was sure he slept there election night. Monday NY1 has Scott on their show and he still can't show the reports a deed? Scott says Eugene is a medical doctor even though he is not registered in New York State as a doctor. Some reporter needs to get to the bottom of the spin and lies? NY1 needs to stop letting consultants shape their news stories.
If he graduated medical school he is a Dr., but since he lives in Canarsie he was not a resident of the 40th district on election day. Some things you can't take away from him! He calls himself Dr., but never claimed to do anything other than run this Youth Employment and Sports, whatever it is.
What medical school did Eugene graduate from? Is it the same school that the congresswoman graduated from?
Dr. Eugene - Welcome to Argyle Road, a diverse street in the heart of Flatbush, where if you actually live here you will be most welcome. After all this controversy you have made Argyle Rd. known to all. It appears Eugene's people misread the statutes, or didn't read them at all, because, in a Yonkers City Council case, the Appellate Division (2d Dep't), which covers Brooklyn as well as Yonkers, said you have to live in the district on election day. Punting to the AG was fatuous.
Now wewe in the coverup stage of this story where the fixes work the phones.
Ben, I noticed that you zapped this blog, I guess it must not have been very nice if you zapped it, but if it did not have any curses in it you should have left it for people to read. What's the matter, you can dish it out but you can't take it? You leave all the other crap on why not the opposing ones. Gur's actually the main zapper. But yes, we're trying to cut down anonymous abuse. But in case you were hoping, no, I don't personally care.
Wow, Cuomo didn't sell out to 1199. He must be his own man after all. Give the man his props Ben.

I am little bit surprised that she referred this to the Attorney General. What happens if he rules that Eugene had to live in the district? He does not have the authority to nullify the results or does he? Shouldn't this have gone to the City's attorneys with consultation from the Board of Elections. Who would actually tell him that he would not be eligible to assume the seat? I know my questions are loaded sorry about that.
Ben how do you file a complaint about this and can you explain the Campaign Finance Board rule about the loan to his committee?
