MCFARLAND REITERATES CALL FOR MORE PRIMARY DEBATES
Says Voters in Upstate and Western New York Deserve to Question Candidates
New York, NY--August 10 ...Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kathleen Troia "KT" McFarland, a top Pentagon official in the Reagan Administration, today reiterated her call for more debates in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, particularly in areas of the state hard hit by job loss.
Ms. McFarland pointed to recent polling showing that neither she nor Mr. Spencer are well enough known by Republican voters for them to make an informed choice on September 12, Primary Day. According to one poll, almost 80% of Republican voters are still unfamiliar with both candidates.
"Mr. Spencer and I have a responsibility to the voters of this state to make our positions known," Ms. McFarland said. "There are regions of this state that are facing major economic crises and families in those areas deserve to hear from their Senate candidates. I am pleased we could have this debate tonight in New York City, but shouldn't we be holding debates in Albany and Buffalo and Syracuse and Rochester, too?"
"I will debate Mr. Spencer anywhere, anytime between now and the Primary, whether I am up or down in the polls" Ms. McFarland continued. "Republican voters need more information about their choice of Senate candidates and it is our duty to provide it." The granddaughter of Italian immigrants, KT McFarland was born and raised in a middle-class home in Madison, Wisconsin. She worked with three U.S. Presidents: For Ronald Reagan she served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense; for Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford she was a member of Henry Kissinger's influential National Security Council staff. She put herself through George Washington University, Oxford and M.I.T. with scholarships, part time jobs and student loans.
