Fun at the Board of Elections Website

Fun at the Board of Elections Website:

Now anyone who has ever been down to the Board knows there is no fun going on there. They are the most incompetent civil servants around, and they cannot help you with anything. I have had computers crash on me, waited hours to get a simple look at filed petitions, and even had to register to vote three times, once in person, because they messed it up so often. You would think they would at least have voter registration down, but they don’t. The Board may be the 8th circle of hell!

Luckily, the voters of New York have not lost their sense of humor.

What’s with the Democratic Party:

With about 5 weeks till the mid term elections, the Democratic Party for the first time in more then a decade has a shot at winning back at least the House of  Representatives. At first glance this seems to be a good thing. However, if the Democrats win the House and maybe even the Senate, it will not be because of a strong and cohesive Democratic Party. It will actually be quite the contrary; it will be because of a weak and incompetent Republican Party.

If there was no Iraq war, the Democratic Party would not pick up a single seat this November. This is because the Democratic Party still has no key message, and any message that it does produce is diluted by conservative Democrats. What the Democratic Party needs today, is a latter day Barry Goldwater or William F Buckley. Democrats need to move their Party to the left first, and then worry about winning elections. Democrats today are Republican light; they constantly hedge their bets, by compromising on things like tax cuts, the Patriot Act, and until recently the war in Iraq.

If the DNC picks New York they should Drop Dead!

Now that the Republicans have picked the Twin cities as their convention spot in 2008, it is the Democrats turn. They only have two cities of choose from, since; there third choice was the Twin Cities.

So, we are left with Denver and New York. Usually, I would be ecstatic that New York was in the top two of anything, I love N.Y. If the convention is in New York I will be psyched. Now these reasons would be totally selfish and I really hope that the convention is not in my hometown.

What’s going on with Central Brooklyn political clubs? Part 1

This past summer has only cemented my belief that there needs to be a new Democratic club in central Brooklyn. CBID, IND, and other groups have done their part in local politics for quite awhile. However, their effectiveness and cohesiveness have begun to dissolve.

Now, this is not a rant about what these clubs did or can do, just an honest assessment of what these clubs are and what they can be.

I am not too familiar with IND and have never been a member. What I have heard is there is constant fractioning and division in the club. Old members are fighting amongst themselves, while new members envision a dramatically different club. The reason I bring this up, is to add more contents to the situation that CBID finds itself in right now.

Eliot Please Help New York

Eliot Please Help New York

Mr. Spitzer you now seem destined to be our next Governor a post that once was one of the most promising political positions in the entire country. However, New York of the 21st century looks much grimmer than New York of the 20th Century. Upstate is losing population exponentially and there seems to be no end in site. Recently the New York Times put out an article stating that every county in New York except one excluding the 5 boroughs and the surrounding suburbs had lost population of 18-25  year olds in the last census update. We need to keep young people in New York.

Why I Wrote The Death of DDDB

In the last day I have been contacted and emailed by many people asking if I wrote The Death of DDDB and why did I write it.

I wrote it because of the mass frustration I felt during this entire election cycle as I worked as Chris Owens Field Director. Time and again I found people like Raul, Robert Puca, Lucy, Amy, Virpi and others help Chris and Bill. What I also found was that there did not seem to be any type of concerted effort by DDDB to get people out and energized. Now I know it is not that easy because DDDB cannot formally endorse candidates. I still feel there needed to be a real ground swell from somewhere telling people we needed to elect officials who were going to stand up against this project. Now this job was not just DDDB’s job but all of ours, well actually mine.

The Death of DDDB

On September 12, 2006 DDDB officially went the way of dodo. This group headed by the self-riotous, egotistical moron know as Daniel Goldstein will never be a factor in Brooklyn politics ever again. Well at least as long as Daniel the idiot keeps running the show.

All DDDB had to do was work hard for one candidate, Bill Batson and they didn't even do that. I know they raised some money and went out and petitioned and canvassed a few times but it wasn't enough. Now there were a few very active DDDB members in the Batson campaign and they should be commended. The first person that comes to mind is Raul Rothblatt, who kicked ass for Bill Batson and Chris Owens for 4 straight months. If the leaders of DDDB had half a brain they would leave this group to people like Raul, who actually care about the community and put their money where there mouth is.
