If the DNC picks New York they should Drop Dead!

Now that the Republicans have picked the Twin cities as their convention spot in 2008, it is the Democrats turn. They only have two cities of choose from, since; there third choice was the Twin Cities.

So, we are left with Denver and New York. Usually, I would be ecstatic that New York was in the top two of anything, I love N.Y. If the convention is in New York I will be psyched. Now these reasons would be totally selfish and I really hope that the convention is not in my hometown.

The reason New York is not a good choice, is because if the Democrats think they can win in 08, New York should be a lock by March. So, should the surrounding states. The Republicans picked what I think is a strategically important city. I know Minnesota has the longest streak of voting for Democrats, but it is much more of a swing state today then New York or its neighbors. Democrats need to do the same thing and put their convention in a swing state. Remember 2004, when the swing state of Massachusetts went to John Kerry, without the convention being in Boston Democrats would have never won that state. Seriously, Boston was the DNC smoking crack. Hey I think Moscow and Havana put up bids too, let’s go there.

Now, Denver isn’t New York, but what is? Mr. Dean, please go to the mile high city and stay out of New York. I know Blummie and Giuliani maybe in the thick of it in 08 but if we have to defend New York we are not going to win. For once, will the Democratic Party go for broke and take a risk. Sometimes I think you guys in the DNC rather lose by 2 points than take a chance and win big or lose big. Colorado is a swing state, so are its neighbors. A convention in Denver could really swing support from states like New Mexico, Arizona as well as Colorado to the nominee. Mr. Dean you even said yourself that you wanted to make Democrats viable in each state, let’s do it; that starts with picking Denver next month.

GO Denver!!!

P.S. I know that there are some union problems in Denver Hotels. Lets not let that make us choose New York over Denver, if the DNC is going to pick NYC find a better reason. I have heard that is what puts NYC in the lead.

After 9/11, this city asked the conventions to come here to help us.  The Republicans did, which is more than they did for us in the 50 years prior.

The Dems should go to New Orleans.  NY Pols should call for it.

Don't you get it?  The rest of the country hates NY, pity over 911 notwithstanding.  The Republicans held their convention here just to remind everyone else how much they hate us.  Now if the Dems hold here too the Republicans will do it all over again.  I'm a union guy but I'm for Denver regardless.  Lots of union airlines fly there.

The only thing dumber than Mayors thinking political conventions are booms for their city;s economy are people who think where the convention is held helps the Party carry that state. Do you remember where the 2004 Republican convention was held?

The Republicans picked New York to see if they could make New Jersey or Pennsylvania close. Also, they tugged at the heart strings of all those who didn’t get attached (i.e. the Mid-West and South) Conventions can help; still New York would be such a bad choice because it would play into the elite liberal stigma that hangs over the Democratic Party.

New Orleans was orignally interested but never got its act together to make a formal proposal. I think N.O. would still be a great choice. Louisiana should be a Democratic state can anyone say Huey Long.

Also if the Democrats cannot work it out with labor unions, they've lost their workingman touch.

New Orleans took itself out of the running.  And the comment about the Denver labor union problem is true and might be a deal breaker.  That said, while I loved being a Manhattan delegate during the 2004 RNC, I am loathe to see another political convention come here for a while from either party [although the parties were great!].  But, I agree with everyone who says putting a DEMOCRATIC convention here would be a mistake for Dems.  It will remind the rest of the country why New Yorkers are out of it.  Ultimately, ass a Republican, I hope the Dems do choose NY because that brings us one step closer to winning in '08 - that and Hillary at the top of the ticket.  If she is at the top of the ticket, at a New York nominating convention, there will most certainly be FOUR MORE YEARS.  Take that to the bank because I know I'm right on that one...
