EnWhySeaWonk's blogNYPD: Keeping the Subways Safe from Terrorists, One Hipster's Bag at a Time! Every time I hear the announcement in the subway that the NYPD can look at "backpacks and other large packages" without probable cause, I mentally insert "according to the 'there's no such law, and it actually should be an unconstitutional search, but the pussy court said it isn't.'" because I think riding public transportation does not mean I give up my Fourth Amendment right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures. I've written about this topic before, but it's been awhile and I've finally been "selected" for search, but I wasn't.I have no idea if this policy, which I believe will turn three years old this year, has deterred a single terrorist, but I sincerely doubt it.
McCain-Crist, Yeah, that's the ticket!
Message to the Media: Stop Printing McCain's Lies as if they are Truth
I can't even think of a title for how pathetic this is
The Second Coming Out of EnWhySeaWonk Back in the day, lots of people wondered who EnWhySeaWonk was. People in real life several times even asked his creator if he knew who EnWhySeaWonk was. Depending on the situation, he usually admitted it was him. I don’t know if anyone still cares, but it was my creator’s job that kept him from blogging under his own name. His employment situation has finally changed after over seven and a half years, and he is therefore able to reveal his “secret identity”: EnWhySeaWonk, a/k/a “Enrique W.S. Wonk” is the creation of Matthew Wright Carlin, a 36 year-old attorney who lives in E. Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As so many people already know this, it might be a little anti-climactic, but I hope this post will prove a point about pseudonymous blogging.
Where for art thou Stoned Crack Whore? As regular readers know, I always post with a picture. I can't create these when I'm not at home, so this old one will have to do: ![]() Ben and Gur canceled Stoney's account, so this falls to me. After the last sanctimonious and self-victimizing post by Rock, I feel it the right of the Room 8 community to comment on it. I mean seriously, do people not have the right to disagree with this man? I'm not saying people don't attack him, some people do, but there is a difference between criticism and attack and he simply refuses or is unable to see that. (And he does realize that if anonymous commenters are banned, his students will be unable to post in his defense right?)
Rock's Defenders
Over the last couple of years, I have long theorized that many of Rock Hackshaw's defenders were, in fact, Rock Hackshaw himself. Way back when, Gatemouth pointed out that Rock's comments were usually accompanied with several blank lines, no doubt a bug in his system. Once, Gate noted, several comments in his defense had those same tell-tale spaces. He denied, of course, any connection.
True in 2006, True in 2008: Mike's Not Running
As I wrote in December 2006 on this blog, and further to Yoda's post today, Mike Bloomberg keeps saying he's not running, but the media keeps the story alive that he is. The stories always say his staff is perpetuating it and "laying the groundwork" for getting on the ballot. If this is true, who's dime are these staffers working on?
TimeOut's Outrageous Poll
My aunt gave me a subscription to TimeOutNY for Christmas last year and by and large I enjoy it, even though it's an incredibly hetero focused (despite having a gay section and an occasional gay sex advice letter). In any case, I was appalled to open my new edition this week and find this as their weekly poll:
The Daily Troopergate![]() Further to my multi-part (and oft criticized) critique of the gone and all-but-forgotten New York Times New York Political Blog the Empire Zone (which I dubbed the "Suozzi Zone" for it's incessant coverage of Tom Suozzi's gubenatorial campaign last year), I'm ready to dub the Daily News' New York City political blog the Daily Politics, the "Daily TrooperGate." I decided to come out of semi-retirement to post on this, because the Daily News' political blog has been bugging the hell out of me.
The Night I Almost Met Rock![]() Tonight I went to the forum on the 40th Council District Special Election, sponsored by Central Independent Democrats, Democracy for NYC, Stonewall Democrats NYC and Animal Friendly NYC. I can’t comment on the actual forum, except to say it was interesting and informative. I made a point of saying “hi” to Wellington Sharpe, because I was honestly hoping to meet Rock Hackshaw. I was even going to out myself to him! But alas, Wellington told me he wasn’t coming.
Not Quite "The End"![]() It's been a real pleasure being a very active member of this little community, and it saddens me to do this, but due to a personal choice, I have to significantly cut back my posting on this site and commenting on all the blogs. Unlike Gatemouth, I have no one to blame, but myself. Those of you who know my "secret identity" are aware that there is a very significant change occurring this week in my political life; if I went into detail it would be too easy for those who don't know who I am to figure it out. For the record, I have always been able to say honestly that I do not and have never worked for any level of government, although this might change in the near future, it is still true today.
By Request
Via email I had an unusual request today from a friend. He wrote:
I love my friend dearly, but I have no idea what he's talking about. I thought it would make an amusing picture, though.
