Fun with Hillary's Opponents

Tasini and Bob

Everyone knows that Hillary does have token opposition this year. There is the what-I-call "huh? wha?" response from the GOP, who can't seem to decide on who's going to take a nice job in the Bush Administration after going down in flames against Hillary, but there are also two other challengers, one from the left and another from the lunatic left!

The Stonewall Democrats of New York City (which has joined its fellow clubs in adopting an acronym ("SDNYC")) received a request from the Jonathan Tasini campaign to discuss his candidacy against Hillary. He was invited to speak this Wednesday as reported on SDNYC's Blog "On the Wall". I think Jonathan embodies what a lot of left-wingers like me believe—Hillary is way too right-wing for our taste. That said, running against her is crazy and any money he raises could go to more credible candidates, he's not raising anyone's consciousness about Hillary and it's actually disingenuous for people like him to talk about how he can actually win if his "message gets out"—if he actually believes that, then he should be locked up.

This wouldn't be worth writing about, except for what happened during the Q&A section of his visit. After a few normal questions a man who, to many people's surprise, Dirk (our president) didn't know by name rose to ask a question. I thought the guy was homeless—shabbily dressed white guy, gray stringy unclean looking hair, mid-to-late 50s, carrying around a lot of bags (and I was later informed, he didn't smell very good). He kind of looked like Bob (Laura Palmer's killer) from Twin Peaks.

So this guy (whose name is Tom Weiss) gets up and announces that he's been running against Hillary for more than a year before Jonathan announced! And he challenges Jonathan saying he isn't liberal enough to run against Hillary! Tom has a plan, you see, while Jonathan had said he's in favor of censure and impeachment, he wants to impeach Dick first, because if Dubya is impeached Dick becomes president, then impeach Dubya afterwards. Jonathan says he's in favor of impeaching both, but the guy starts almost yelling at him that this is not allowed under the constitution "who would you impeach first?" he demanded. Dirk, thankfully cut off the discussion. Of course it's silliness that you can't impeach them at the same time—of course it can be done.

I find the idea that this crazy left-wing guy asks to speak to our club and gets attacked from the left! Sometimes I think the name should be changed to the Stonewall Drama Club of New York City (we can keep the same acronym).
