In Search of: Hillary '08 Supporters

Wingnut's Den 3

I've been having an email conversation with Daily Gotham blogger Michael Bouldin during the last couple of days. He's someone I've disagreed with periodically (in blog comments) but usually agree with, respect and enjoy his stuff.

We got on the topic of the Ben's Drudging the other day, when he wrote about Hillary wearing a cross. Matt Drudge has picked up Ben's pieces  several times, and I think every time it had to do with Hillary—inevitably, his readers go to the link and post hundreds of insanely right-wing comments. I told Michael that I didn't bother to read these comments and he said (permission granted to quote him):

Oh, the Drudgeites' comments are hilariously funny. Well worth a read, especially if, God help us, Hillary secures the nomination in 2008. I hear Madame is acting very presidential lately; even if I have yet to meet an open Hillary supporter, I'm worried about that scenario. If anyone thinks that the passage of time has blunted the hatred somewhat, I'm very much afraid they're quite wrong.

That got me thinking. Do I know any openly Hillary '08 supporters? I really can't think of anyone actually going around saying they support her presidential bid. I will ask my mother what she thinks—she's a huge fan. I have been told by many Northeastern Liberals that they think Hillary can win the election. I have a long track record of stating why I think this is false—in a nutshell, far too many Democrats hate her outside of the Northeast for her to win, and the Republicans hate her even more than they did "the adulterer."  As I wrote to Michael:

I agree with the conventional wisdom that she's capable of winning the nomination, but not the election. But we'll see—I think the primary is going to be a tough battle for her, but she's done so much state party ground work behind the scenes that we don't know nearly the full extent of—she has a successful primary playbook to work from and national office to do it from (unlike last time).

It then occurred to me that with all the rancor that she inspires on the lunatic right, that she had better have the biggest and best secret service contingent if she gets the nomination. I could definitely see a serious assisination attempt by some wing-nut who thinks, unlike me, that she has a chance of winning the general election. I'm not saying it is going to happen, but a lot more rabidly crazy people hate her than hated John Kerry, Al Gore or Bill Clinton.

Of course I will vote for Hillary if she's the nominee in '08, but as I've told some of my friends: I'm so sure she won't be elected president, that I will run naked through Times Square if does.

I assume that this is an effort to ensure that Rock Hackshaw votes Republican.

Assuming that John McCain or Rudy is not the GOP candidate and their candidate is pro-life, is there any state carried by Kerry that you think Hillary would not carry? If she did carry all those states, all she has to do is get @115,000 more votes than Kerry did in Ohio. I'm not saying that this would be easy but she has as much chance of doing this as any other potential Dem candidate. You need to get out and took to real voters rather than those who eat, drink & talk politics 18 hours a day and you will find one the @20 million voters who support Hillary (according to the polls)

First of all, yes Gate, even though I made that pledge 2 years ago, clearly it's all about Rock.

To 1:23. Okay, Rudy has zero chance of getting the GOP nomination--your listing him shows how little you know. He probably won't even run. Are you one of these voters who are supporting her 1:23? Because you didn't say you were.

In any case, here is a list of States that John Kerry won and Hillary might not, with the percentage Kerry won by. You, I assume, live in the Northeast and don't comprehend just how much people hate her in this country.

  1. Wisconsin, 0.38%
  2. New Hampshire, 1.37%
  3. Pennsylvania, 2.50%
  4. Michigan, 3.42%
  5. Minnesota, 3.48%
  6. Oregon, 4.16%

I always tell people to travel to or cultivate friends in red states, because our perspective here isn't necessarily representative of the rest of the country. And the fact is that people beyond our part of the country hate Hillary, with a visceral, from-the-guts hatred that we simply don't understand.

Fairly or not, Hillary has been demonized by the right for the better part of two decades, and they've done a thorough job. Of course, they're going to demonize whomever the nominee is in 2008 - but if it's Hillary, they will have a head start.

The point about the Kerry states is that they represent, I would argue, not a floor, but a ceiling. I don't see Hillary winning in Ohio, or Pennsylvania, or Minnesota, or Iowa.

I think the country is ready to elect a Democrat as President, like we did in 2000 and (almost) in 2004. Just not Hillary. Again, it's unfair, because on the merits, she might do a great job, might even win the primary; but the deck is so stacked against her that I just don't see it.

Dear Sir ,There are presently three websites online for one new book, entitled First Lady President. Perhaps you might think that I have made these websites in order to make good sales for my book. It is not so. It is to show to the American people that the rise of Hillary Clinton to the presidency of the United States by an "unprecedented," "record breaking" margin is an ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY. This is as certain as my earlier prediction back in year 2000 about Gulf War II and elimination of Saddam Hussein from the Arab scene on election of George W Bush to the presidency of the United States proved to be. Refer to:
(An Indian's advice to the American electorate)
This book, a "fiction," is NOT pro-Hillary Clinton except for the prediction of the victory for its chief character Beverly Hilton as above. It is a "neutral" and "balanced" narration based upon the "futuristic instincts" of the author. Inspite of it being so, this book itself will be instrumental in mustering the support and in enhancing the victory margin for Hillary Clinton since American people are likely to see the "reflection" of her in the character of Beverly Hilton.
American presidential election is no longer an "exclusive" thing for the American people alone. In this cyber age and global consciousness the US presidential election is a global issue and it arouses the curiosity all over the world. And the people outside US do "participate" in this election if not through casting of votes at least through discussion about it and through expressing their opinions about the possible candidates which might possibly affect their own life. This is what I have tried to do through this book, although indirectly. The election of a given candidate might affect the life of the people of "any" country in the world outside US as in fact has proved to be for the life of Iraqi people (as also for the American people themselves) on the election of George W Bush. I had cautioned the American people in my posting back in 2000 which was written 6 months "prior" to the election. Similarly, it might well affect the lives of people of India and so many other countries in the world depending upon who is going to be elected in the next presidential election. Therefore, it is quite relevant for "foreigners" to give in their own input about US presidential election 2008. And it is quite "relevant" for the American people to read it as well. I had given my opinion well in advance in the form of this book which was written back in 2003. I am quite confident this book in spite of its "imaginary" story and in spite of its "neutrality" WILL "influence" the mind of the American electorate in favor of Hillary Clinton. Pl see "reflection" on www.firstladypresident.in
In the process if by any chance it popularises the book and benefits the author, he cannot help it. But it is certain that the author had NOT written this book in order to reap any financial benefit or to popularise himself or even to help Hillary Clinton. It was a plain description of destiny as foreseen by the author who had been keeping a watch over events of the American politics for the past 35 years. If he had done it for anything, it was to "promote" FREEDOM as seating of a woman for the first time on the most powerful post of the world precisely did that. Women are not the exclusive domain of the Americans alone. They constitute more than half the world and one sixth of their population is in India.
I have always been claiming that India is the greatest democracy in the world and NOT the United States of America as I claimed "greatness" of a democracy was neither to be measured in terms of  "piles of weapons of mass destruction in possession" nor even by the degree of "economic prosperity" or "technical advancement." It is to be measured by the "volume" of the masses of the people to be governed by their own "elected" representatives (by Lincoln's definition "govt of the people, by the people and for the people").  The "greatness" was also be measured in terms of how much the "elected" government had been instrumental in uplifting those masses including "minorities" and "women" who constituted a very significant part of them. "Uplifting" also included giving the opportunies to rise to the highest level of government. Even in this respect India has already proved to be far ahead of the United States. India made a number of heads of the nation from minority communities and the first ever  woman Prime Minister of the world -- Mrs Indira Gandhi -- 42 years back. And now we have a woman, that too of a "foreign" origin, who "makes" the Prime Ministers and Presidents. Hence India is the greatest.
While writing this book First Lady President imagining a woman "president" of USA, I didn't know that India would beat USA even in this respect by one and a half years. We are going to have our first lady president earlier than USA. India is a vast country -- half a continental size, but to my own surprise she turned out to be from my own city.Until yesterday, 20th June, she was the Governor of my State -- Rajasthan . But now she is a presidential contestant with the brightest chance to win. I met her yesterday and presented this book to her. Pl see the photo at www.inderdanratnu.com.  She smiled and remarked "what an imagination!"
The special websites of the book are :
Sincerely
