Subway Reading 1: "The Truth about the Jew"

Suway Reading 1

I’m one of those people on the subway who’s always looking to see what my fellow riders are reading. Once I saw someone reading the exact same edition of Lolita that I was; that was the coolest example.

On the L train this morning I saw a real gem sitting right in front of where I was standing. As my "smart" phone doesn't look like a camera, I snapped a few shots of the pamphlet and then the reader after she put it away (a guy sat next to her and seemed to be as curious, but not as subtle, as I; she acted uncomfortable as she put it in her purse).
The title: "The Truth About the Jew" (not the “Jews,” but the “Jew”)

The only text I was able make out: "The Jews poisoned all the wells." (not the “Jew,” but the “Jews.”)
Loverly! You gotta love New York diversity! Well, maybe not when people are reading ravingly anti-semitic propaganda.

Help me out here folks. For whatever reason Wonk has played tricks with this photograph. Just like with the recent photograph of Rocky. Take a look at it, Bouldin. Do those hands look like they belong to a White person? Or are we talking Black anti-semite here. Let's see. Is Black anti-Semite hotter than Black homophobe? Loverly. Wonk.

She was a caucasion woman, I'd say mid-30s. The only thing I changed was to pixilate her face to make her anonymous.

Since 12:04 brought you into this Bouldin, I'd be happy to send you both pics of I took of her unaltered for you to be the judge.

Is this a three-handed woman, Wonk or is someone trying to grope her with an umbrella. Did you just pixillate her face or her entire body?

Zap.  On the grounds of incivility.

I went looking for the specific pamphlet online, but the only publication I found that may have spawned it is Henry Ford's "The International Jew," which, on Amazon has elicited the above phrase from several posters. I'm a great believer in challenging people I see reading scum on the subway, especially if they appear smaller than myself.

A) This happened. I don't make up things for my blog.

B) Bouldin, see what you've done? You made unsubstantiated claims that I am racist and now people are saying to me "How about the big Black ape who tried to rub himself against you, and snatch your pocket book?" I repeat. I am not a racist. EVEN ROCK DIDN'T ACCUSE ME OF BEING A RACIST.

C) I have more pictures, I can forward them to someone reputable to review them.

D) I am 1/2 Puerto Rican, so the Latino comments is way over the top.

E) Maybe she isn't anti-semetic, the pamphlet clearly is.

This is an outrageous.  This is a complete invasion of privacy and could definitely have a chilling effect on individuals right to read whatever materials they want.

i know I like many other people who are interestedin understanding all points of views have read anti Semetic tracts (which I then was able to confront anti-semites with using there own words and thoughts to make my point), blantantly anti black tracts ( I am black and not self hating but I do want to understand the mindset of neo nazi and the christian identity movement) and I have read anti white propaganda.

Now is my attempt at enlightening my self and forming cogent arguments to by reading properly described hateful literature to be relegated to a small room in an enclosed structure becasue someone with a cell phone cam is going to take a picture of me and say look at what he is reading.  Is every history student that is assigned Mein Kampf going home from school will be photographed and put up on a web site.

I love the internet but there are some scary uses that though not governmentally sanctioned can still affect civil and constitutional right or like I stated earlier have a chilling effec t.

Let this be the first and last time you turn your camera on an unsuspectiong person without knowing the full story of why she was reading it.

btw that photo has enough identifiable features that I am sure her friends or co workers will know its her the second they see it.

I'm sure women that end up on "fashion faux pas" columns in fashion magazines with their faces blurred can be recognized by their friends, too. I protected her identity as much as people in reality shows when the don't sign releases. That's my only obligation. I make no claim about the woman except that she was reading it in public. Sorry if that offends some, but it's fair game. I'm glad my next subway reading post is about things I found--but I'm sure it will offend someone overly sensitive.

Nice touch, Gur & Ben. You zap remarks that you deem incivil to Wonk. But you leave up the photograph of a private individual who is portrayed as being anti-Semitic by Wonk just because she is reading a book. And you leave up that Wonk cartoon of Rocky which he must find uncivil. How ridiculous can you guys get? Pay attention to your credibility.

Wonk didn't break into somebody's bedroom. He took a picture of a person on the subway. And he (kindly, unnecessarily!) obscured her face! Relax.

Civility is a tough thing to measure. I thought Rock and Wonk were having a civil, if tough, argument. But it's subjective.

My guess is that she is a researcher for tha Anti-Defamation League.  But regardless of who she is, there is nothing in any way illegal or unethical about photographing someone in a public place, or anywhere where people do not have an expectation of privacy.  Clearly a crowded subway station falls into that category.  EWS Wonk was very generous to obscure her face.  People should not do in a public place that which would embarass them if others see it.  The woman is engaged in an activity which is as extreme in its offensiveness as the man who masturbated on a subway several months ago and was caught on camera and had his photo circulated on the Internet.  She deserves the same fate.

"This is a complete invasion of privacy and could definitely have a chilling effect on individuals right to read whatever materials they want."

Um, if you read something on the subway, you're showing it to hundreds of people; you're choosing not to keep private your reading habits.

I was directed to this post by the Observer's blog.

I'm telling you.  Have these biddies nothing better to do than to comment on the reading habit of some subway rider?

And to worsen matters, start throwing out charges of racism, anti-Semitism at each other, followed by their ethnic backgrounds?

No wonder this blog is becoming unsufferable lately.

Such a parcel of gossips on a blog.

People have a right to read what they want, don't they? Was she forcing the material on anyone other than those people who forced it upon themselves by spying on her? Perhaps she was reading homework for a class on anti-Semitism.
