New York's Blogger of Record

"Mr. Yassky is undoubtedly an opportunist, as are most politicians and certainly all those in this race. …The residents of the 11th District deserve the best representation possible. In this race, that is David Yassky, who gets our endorsement"

The  New York Times Editorial Page 8/30/06

*************************************************

"There’s a touch of opportunism is Yassky’s candidacy which has echoes elsewhere in his record … Yassky is still the smartest, most knowledgeable, and best on the issues.  In a better world that would be game, set and match."

or are they plagerizing?

I actually thought the Times might go the Rock route, want the Yuppie but endorse the Buppie.  But I guess it's full speed ahead.

Hey Gate, can a straight guy like me ever become your agent? I will work for only 10% of the monies you bring in/lol. Congrats. Good job. BTW: word on the street is that it's going to come down to Yassky or Carl Andrews. ME: I am still rooting for Chris Owens. We shall all see in 2 weeks kid.

The Times editorial paints all African-American politicians in CD11 with one condescending brush. It almost seems to say "we gave those darkies their chance and look at the mess they made". Now they want shiny David to come in, send everyone to their rooms and clean it up. Not likely. While anyone who pays attention to Brooklyn politics has serious questions about Andrews' ethics and Clarke's competence it is lazy journalism to write Owens off as simply a dynastic candidate and an example of a corrupt district. I thought that he was just a "son-of" candidate until I listened to him. He has a fire that the others lack for the issues (Yassky is very driven but you always get the sense that it's almost exclusively for his own gain -- and that if he was in a red state, he would be a passionate advocate for right-wing issues). Anyone who hears Owens speak knows that that he is a passionate about his beliefs and would make a combative Congressman.

10:19... wrong wrong wrong 10:19. The Times was itching to endorse a person of color for that seat... it just happens to be that the three that stepped up are so egregiously underqualified that they had to endorse Yassky for their own credibility!

And your so wrong about Yassky in a red state.  So SO SO wrong.  I almost think that you are in fact a bitter Chris Owens.

Chris was clearly the winner in the NY1 debate. Clarke was the hitter, and she hit hard.Yassky was unimpressive, and probably didn't expect Ms. Diploma to hit so hard. Andrews was the dumbest. BUT, if it's between ANdrews and Yassky (and that's what all the telephone polls are asking me when they call) we MUST GO WITH YASSKY. Andrews will be a big fat zero in Congress, and I like Brooklyn too much to have to leave.

I wouldn't brag about sharing the generally stuffy worldview of the Times's editorial page, no matter whether they copied from you or just think the same.

Submitted by rosalie907 (not verified) on Wed, 08/30/2006 - 9:04pm.

The Times could have stayed neutral and not endorsed any candidate.  Problem is that Yassky favors the Ratner castration of Downtown Brooklyn and so does the Times.  That's why he got their endorsement.By the way, I was at a meeting where Yassky proposed that we bomb Iran, so much for his anti war stance.

Good observation in the Times endorsement! "The last thing needed on Capital Hill is a franchise of the Norman way of doing business."  Yassky's FEC Reports show that he is all set to do business in Washington the Abramoff way.  Is this pattern too subtle for the Times to see?  Or does the Times have contempt for Clarence Norman and Carl Andrews because they engage in petty cash corruption.

Hey Gatemouth Please answer these questions.
#1 who really killed James E. Davis (behind the gunman)

#2 did you have a relationship wih James and if so did you support his brother when he ask for a public investigation from the City Council? (Peter Vallone Jr. said, 'No') so noother person can be killed

#3 Are you really trying to move the community foward and if so how can you allow a crime like this to pass?

#4 Do you believe David Yassky when he said Geoffrey tried to extort him?

#5 If the Davis family were Jewish (or any other ethnicity) do you think they would be treated like this?

G-d forbid, but if Councilman Filder was Killed inside City Hall. The Jewish community would have tore City Hall DOWN

Geoffrey tried, but was left alone fighting. Good Job guys we're really moving ahead.

Note:

I saw Geoffrey Davis at the train station and Senior Centers with Yassky and speaking out against anyone who thought Yassky should not run because the coler of his skin. Good job Davis, Remain strong!!!!
