Although, mostly thank to the Daily News, there's every reason to suspect that the vote counting scanners have made mistakes, there's no reason to suspect that they have insured to the benefit of my candidate. In fact, the likelihood is they benefit the candidate whose supporters were less likely to speak English. Meanwhile, Colin's calling this election “Brooklyn’s Florida” is proven eerily accurate, as the GOP responds by calling for the election to be ended before the votes are counted. Money line: "Naturally, Berardelli is defending the interests of his client and his party, but even he readily admits that were Storobin down 27 votes instead of up, he'd be howling for a recount too" SD-27 Recount: Dems Say Go; GOP Says No www.nydailynews.com
Vito on Chris Olechowski and Polish empowerment: "The Polish community—you’re not going to write about it—are working to elect the first Polish community leader...They’re really caught up in his candidacy.” Gate: I should first note that at the Gatemouth residence, all of the empowerment resides in people born in Poland. Admittedly, 1980 was the last time a Polish-American was elected Greenpoint's District Leader, but it happened, and surely Vito remembers Tom Bartowsiewiecw, who served as his area's State Senator when Vito was first elected in the 80s. And isn't Joe Lentol part Polish? I should also note that Vito's comments about Nydia not representing the 50th AD are, at best misleading. Currently she represents virtually everthing north of the Hasidim, and has since the mid-90s. While she did lose this area in redistricting, does anyone really believe her support there is meaningless? Plusses for Vito: reapportionment has taken out some of Linc's strength, and Chris will work harder than Warren Cohn and has an actual personal base. Plusses for Linc---this time he will get more Aroni votes, plus he's had two years of demographic shifts and new construction in his favor. Dr. Mittman's previously reported exit from the race in the 6th CD was what the medical profession refers to as a false positive. Here's what the Doc has to say: I'm speechless; the man is a tongue depressor. In further news, Anthony Weiner has announced he's seeking election as a combination gynecologist/dentist: "I decided to become a doctor because I believe that our medical system is no longer working in the best interest of the people...Something is wrong in medicine and as a lifelong community resident, a parent, a patient, a former elected official with an agenda for Medicare for Everyone, I am here to offer a "Weiner for the Women"...I am not a career physician like all of my competitors...I’m a public servant with two decades experience providing services for people. As a Congressman, I have been trained to spot an issue and offer a solution. I will apply these same techniques to my medical practice. My HMO (no homo) gives women the chance to be fully serviced for all their needs, as I spend my time drilling and filling their cavities. This is a real alternative to medicine as usual." I'm renaming this guy Mark Schlemiel.
I can't understand why the Brooklyn Heights Association is so upset that the neighborhood will be losing parking spaces to accommodate bike stations. No one can find a space there anyway, so who's a few less going to hurt? And besides, if only there were more bikes, people would get rid of their cars anyway. And bikes are so much safer than cars, after all, when was the last time you ever saw a biker run a stop sign or red light? Heights battles bike stations | Brooklyn Daily Eagle www.brooklyneagle.com
Chait on American Elect: "Americans Elect is a third-party group trying to elect a presidential candidate on the platform of doing everything President Obama has tried to do, except maybe suck up more to rich people and provide better high-end train service between Washington and New York...
