Ignorant Flatulence Watch:
More than a week after the vote, the board is a sputtering font of excuses about why it isn’t close to determining a final result in the race to unseat Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel.
While the timely and accurate reporting of elections returns is an extremely desirable public good, and the Board of Elections’ refusal to use the technology within its grasp is inexcusable, I'd give kudos to any reporter who moves on from focusing on delays in reporting the 13th CD machine count, which was completed last week, and instead starts reporting on the substantive complaints concerning how the election was conducted and whether they add up to something or not. As Colin noted today, complaints about the Board of Election making erroneous reports on election night are nothing new, and neither is the fact that those complaining the loudest often do not have clean hands in the process themselves, though they do often seem to be State Senators from Upper Manhattan.

David Brooks: I‘ve never understood the left’s disenchantment with Obama. He runs a country that’s 22 percent liberal and he pushes through more gigantic pieces of progressive legislation than we’ve seen in decades and liberals go around moping that he’s not tough enough, or he’s too moderate, or he doesn’t hug people enough.
