TRADD AND TRUE: "But even over the distance of 31 years, [Schneiderman] said, if people want to know what to expect if he is elected the state’s next top law enforcement officer, they need to understand his time in Berkshire County."

I guess that means ludicrous exaggeration and efforts to mislead and misdirect.

In Yiddish, Schneiderman means “tailor,” meaning one who works with the material he has to transform it into something new and unrecognizable.

I think the last politician to brag about his mom's endorsement was fictitious (but, then again so are Doug's chances)--Festus "Mother" Garvey in Edwin O'Connell's "The Last Hurrah," a title which would deliver an important lesson to Doug, if he had any sense (which he does not). The title might also be of some future use to Doug's opponent, but that is a discussion that can wait at least two years, as this year, the only alternative is Doug.

BTW Dougie, it is not Joan Millman's fault that your mom lost her pension--it is probably your dad's (alev ha-sholem) for not choosing an lower-paying option with the right of survivorship. A dumb move, like running for Assembly with $10 grand in the bank, probably assuming that there were matching funds, like in the pointless race you ran last year for Council.

Also Doug, you might ask you consultant, supposed history meister Gary Tilzer, about the precedent for governments using pension fund loans to balance a budget during a fiscal crisis--for instance, doing that is what saved the City and State from bankruptcy during the 70s.

Where TF is it anyway?

"'The changing geography is purely symbolic,' said Nelson Warfield, a national Republican strategist who has worked extensively in New York. ‘It’s a mixture of geography and conceptual issues,' he said. 'The concept of an Islamic community center in close proximity to the scene of the greatest attack... by Muslim extremists on this country is hard to delineate in terms of lines on a map.'“

But if you you're asking it to move, the least you can do is delineate those lines, no?

Republicans are refusing to answer the “where then?” question, because they are afraid that any naming any spot of dry land in the continental United States (Hawaii, the home of our first Islamic President, might be OK with GOP moderates) would infuriate their very base base.

As someone who's not been uncritical of the
behavior of the Islamic Street, or its apologists, I have no problem with the major thrust of Dothan’s column. He's dead-on about not holding moderate Muslims to unrealistic standards, and he's right-on about holding them to realistic ones. Even with what appears to be an admirable record, Rauf is not exempt from criticism (although some of Rauf's harshest critiques of America echo comments made by people like Bill Kristol and even Glenn Beck), and I reserve the right to criticize him myself (for something other than naiveté).

My problems here is Douthat's application of this point to the current Young Men’s Islamic Association controversy. My response after reading this column is "and therefore, what?"

What does trusting, but verifying Rauf have to do with Rauf’s right to have the laws applied to him without every tin pot Republican demagogue calling for the use of any and every governmental weapon at hand to stop him?

For a conservative, Douthat is OK, but when it comes to his good faith, I'll trust but verify.

Gateface your missing the point anyone who is unraveled like Doug' mother has done to your very weak assemblywoman will not be around for long

Pension-gate:  Millman's Double Dipping Problem

Assemblywoman gives an incorrect explanation on why she is collecting 2 govt paychecks at the same time

and misleads about her intentions to defer

Former President Richard Nixon learned the lesson that the cover-up was more damaging than the crime.  Apparently Assembly Millman has not learned that lesson.

According to a report in Crain’s NY, Assemblywoman Joan Millman says she erred in a debate last week against challenger Doug Biviano when she said that she could not defer her teacher's pension while she works in the Assembly.  “She can, but she won't.”  In the interview, the assemblywoman was attempting damage control for a question she answered at a debate when Biviano asked her if she was double-dipping (receiving two government paychecks at the same time).

Millman’s answer to Biviano at the debate was that she was collecting two government paychecks because of pension fund rules.  The assemblywoman stated in the debate, “You can’t rescind it (pension) and so I’ve been collecting it.”  When Biviano asked Millman whether she would defer her pension if the rules allowed her to suspend her payments while she was serving as assemblywoman, she responded, “If that had been an option, sure.”

Millman was forced to flip-flop on her pension suspension explanation at the debate to Crain’s after a story appeared a few days after the debate in the Brooklyn Paper’s online edition that stated the pension law allowed her to suspend her pension without any penalties.   A reporter at the paper checked with the Teachers Retirement System website, which clearly states that educators can “voluntarily suspend their retirement allowance by filing a ‘Retirement Allowance Suspension/Resumption Form.’ ”  Her intention to defer also flip-flops in the Crain's report.

I am so happy that the ugly (inside and out) crazy old gym teacher reaped what she had sowed. She could have gotten her argument across by saying “N word” and not using the word and by not saying “don’t NAACP me” and “Don’t marry out of your race ” but like Michael Richards AKA “Cosmo Kramer”, she ends up the trash heap of history, a history of her own making. I am so happy that the free market AKA sponsors started to pull their ads (I guess they were exercising their free speech) and she finally realized that she was just another “run of the mill gabby” and her days were numbered. She realized that she was not as smart as she thought she was, finally! We are all adults here and we all know that we cannot control how others will respond to our comments, but it nothing to do about First Amendment rights (how exactly did the government stop her? They didn’t) and street talk and more about being held responsible for our actions and words.   The first three times she used the word might not have been in anger but the last eight she was filled with hate, so good riddance.

Palin was the one who got bent over the use of the word “Retard” (she wanted someone fired for using it once), Palin also said that the people have the right to build the Mosque in NY, but out of respect for the 9/11 families they shouldn’t, but I guess this same standard is not applicable to Laura Schlessinger. Do you see the hypocrisy? The problem with Palin is the same when she mistakenly referred to Ronald Reagan Eureka College, being in California and we all know its in Illinois, same thing, she does not fact check anything she is going to say. She is soooo Palin!
