Open Letter to WFP Executive Director Dan Cantor

Take a stand and vote for your values and not for any back-room agreements. Word on the street is that Council Member John Liu switched his citywide office bid from Public Advocate to Comptroller for Endorsement from Working Family Party.

Former Public Advocate candidate and current Comptroller Candidate Liu who spoke in a Democratic club breakfast meeting in Brooklyn back in Feb 2009 and definitely said he was running for Public Advocate. He did not even mention the Comptroller job. You can't trust this guy.

Let's not forget that John Liu took money from the bank employees of the Great Eastern Bank during his campaign. The very bank that his daddy was convicted of scamming for a million dollars.

The Flushing of Flushing commons, the third project down the crapper that Liu was promoting (#1 Boymelgreen's RKO Keith's plan and #2 TDC's Muni Lot #! Complex) in expectation of receiving campaign cash no doubt.

John Liu who ignore the calls and emails off Falun Gong practitioners who have been persecuted and beaten in Flushing Queens. In fact, Liu proceeded to line up several Falun Gong practitioners by name from a sign up sheet that was posted in his office earlier and after they were lined up, he went down the line and dismissed evey person loudly saying "Bye Bye" to each individuals. http://epoch-archive.com/a1/en/us/nyc/2008/07-Jul/01/A1_Front.pdf

This lack of compassion and lack or response is no surprise to supporter of the ban of NYC horse drawn carriage who have send him emails amd attempted to call his office to no avail.

John Liu is supporting an industry that is not only cruel that has perpetrated wide spread fraud and yet John Liu support intro 653-A. This bill will weaken enforcement of current laws by removing authority from the ASPCA, New York Police Department, and others to enforce the meager protections that the horses have while providing fare hikes for the industry and shifting the costs of providing water to horses to taxpayers. It opens the door for the industry to self-regulate and escape oversight by independent agencies.

What makes Int. 653-A especially reprehensible is that a year and a half ago, City Comptroller Bill Thompson released an independent audit documenting the inhumane conditions the horses live and work in, which found the horses are forced to stand in their own waste in stables and work without adequate water, protection from harsh weather conditions, and oversight by authorities. More enforcement needs to be done, not less.

I say to Dan Cantor, Vote your Values or Working Families will be another corrupted failed party in NYC.
