State Senator John Sampson doesn't kneel before Emperor Bloomberg

Thank you State Senator John Sampson and I wish more people would grow a pair to stand against Bloomberg.  Unfortunately, Governor Patterson bend over for the mayor who he supposedly referred as a nasty, tantrum-prone liar”. Dicker further states that Paterson says of Bloomberg, that “you can’t trust him”.

Why Mayoral Control Must Lapse and not be Renewed

No Bid Contracts -Millions and millions of our dollars for assessments not align to the student's curriculum, such as Princeton Review, CTB/McGraw etc.  Questionable no bid contracts to groups with close ties to administration such as City Year relationship with ex Deputy Mayor Doctoroff.  Millions and Millions of dollars on no-bid consulting contracts.

School Overcrowding- As Public Advocate Betsy Goldbaum stated "They didn't anticipate the baby boom with all the kids coming into the system? They didn't anticipate with all the construction that;s going on? Hello!"

LearnNY - Geoffrey Canada chairs Learn NY which has massive ads for mayoral control has received almost $388 million in contracts from the city and the Education Department over the past decade, according to records from the comptroller’s office. Two other board members of Learn NY are Reverend Calvin Butts of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, and Sister Paulette LoMonaco of Good Shepherd Services. Their organizations have done almost $400 million worth of combined business with the city over the last decade.

Dubious Unverifiable Success - But how can the mayor and chancellor be held accountable when, essentially, they evaluate themselves? We need a reliable professional group, similar to the Independent Budget Office, with full access to data, to annually evaluate school system performance.

Dictatorship - No one individual should wield absolute power over such a large, diverse school system.  Bloomberg extended term limits without  a public referendum and his ego can't be rein in.  Bloomberg can remove his appointees at any time if they disagree with him, which happened.

Only one in ten English Language learners currently graduate with a Regents diploma in four years, and only one in twenty students with disabilities.  Even worse, less than one in three Black and Latino students currently graduate with a Regents diploma.

Apathy: Bloomberg lacks empathy.  As a concern citizen wrote " You laud yourself on education issues, when the number one lesson we can teach our children is the conservation of our wildlife, not their destruction,as you have done to the geese population here in NYC. You broke our hearts here in Bayside, Queens and betrayed our trust. Our beloved Oakland Lake now lies silent, since our magnificent geese which our families enjoyed and loved, were swept up and gassed in a cruel and horrific manner with OUR tax dollars, when other humane options were available"

For the children's sakes, let Mayoral control expire and it is time for people to dethrone emperor Bloomberg who wears no clothes.

NY's No  Bid/Payback Programs and State/Federal Entitlement Programs Hurt Citizens and Taxpayers

There's a big problem in New York with paybacks, kickbacks and using Federal entitlement programs to make bigger government rather than letting the money go where it belongs -- to the people.

This kickback/money laundering scheme creates an economic incentive for States/Federal government to misuse their contracting authority. Schools cannot choose the best programming, services or treatment modalities.  Parents and children cannot shop for the best programming, services or treatment program.  Worse, these State officials chose these vendors not based on any quality or price, but because of their own economic incentive including maximizing Federal reimbursements.

Pursuant to OMB circulars, any contract awarded that is reimbursed by Federal funds must undergo a cost comparison to ensure that the price being paid is not excessive.  This is not happening and neither the State nor the Federal government is protecting taxpayer money against these abusive no-bid contracts.  Indeed NYS's inspector general's office has even gone so far as to state that it does not have to put federally funded contracts out for bid.  This position is completely illegal under both State and Federal law, but there is no one policing the abuse.

New York State Senator John Sampson is a courageous and strong leader who has the balls and the intelligence to take on New York State's extensive and decades long corruption problem.

He is a true man of the people and we should all get behind him and lend him our support and love.

God bless him!
