CM LIU TO JOIN JING KELLY AT CONTINUING CHILD CUSTODY PROCEEDING
*************************************************
WHAT:
Council Member John C. Liu will join Jing Kelly at continuing court
proceedings to determine the custody of Jing's son Tristram Kelly.
Ms. Jing Kelly, an immigrant from China, lost custody of her child,
Tristram, when she reported abuse by her husband. She has not seen
Tristram since 2003 when Family Court Judge Sara Schechter wrongly
awarded permanent custody to the abuser's sister. That decision was
reversed on appeal by the Appellate Division of New York State Supreme
Court. Council Member Liu had filed an Amicus Brief in support of
Jing Kelly in that appeal. The case is back in Judge Schechter's
court.
CM Liu leads a growing advocacy for the reunification of Tristram with
his mother; his father is deceased.
WHEN:
Monday, July 17, 2006 at 2:30 pm.
WHERE:
New York County Family Court
60 Lafayette Street
Part 9 (8th Floor)
Judge Sara P. Schechter.
WHO:
Ms. Jing Kelly
Council Member John C. Liu and Ms. Ellen Young.
