TORAIN FAILS TO SERVE PAPERS TO CM LIU IN FEDERAL LAWSUIT ALLEGING DEFAMATION

CITY HALL, NY – Council Member John Liu stated the following in
response to questions about the defamation lawsuit filed in federal
court by Troi Torain, a disk-jockey fired from Power 105 FM radio
station. CM Liu had made himself available at City Hall today, but
neither Torain nor any representatives showed up to serve the
complaint papers. Requests made by CM Liu to the plaintiff for a copy
of the complaint went unanswered.

CM Liu stated: "I'm relieved Torain is now targeting me instead of
little girls. The fact remains, though that this is a grown man who
states, in the most public of ways, that he wants to sexually assault
and commit deviant acts on a four-year-old girl. And that, in my
book, is a sick pedophile."

Over a five day period this May, Torain produced and broadcast
comments expressing his desire to have sex with, ejaculate on, and
urinate on a four-year-old girl. Torain also offered a substantial
cash bounty to anyone with information about the girl's school.
Torain was subsequently terminated by Power 105 on May 10th and then
arrested by the NYPD's Hate Crime Unit on May 12th.

CM Liu added: "This issue is far larger than Torain. He's only a pawn
for a giant media conglomerate – Clear Channel Communications – that
has engaged in business practices profoundly contradicting their own
corporate creed. This is a company that sought to hire Torain – in
fact, paid him an extended contract worth $17 million – to push the
envelope and pump up profits. Saying sorry after being caught
red-handed is a meaningless gesture and we intend to hold Clear
Channel accountable."
