It's Official: The Mayor Signed The Increases!

Hello Everyone,

Today is a great day - for Councilmembers of course. The Mayor, live from City Hall, has just signed the proposal of the salary increases for the City Council, Borough Presidents, the Public Advocate and District Attorneys.

What an embarrasement of our elected officials in City Hall. Speaker Quinn should be very proud of herself and I hope she knows how to address this issue when she decides, if she does, run for Mayor in 2009. New Yorkers will not forget....She's really kissing some.....you put in then word....to get free press along with Mayor Bloomberg, who she knows is popular.

I still strongly oppose that Councilmembers give themselves a raise. This is unethical in every sense of the word.

Get rid of the lulus and make the job of a Councilmember full-time. What's the big deal? The people, the voters, the constituents DESERVE BETTER REPRESENTATION IN CITY HALL. (Thank God for term limits. After 2009, most of the current members will not be in office).

Well, see you all at Speaker Quinn's place tonight...YEAH RIGHT! Only those who favored the increase are invited.

Yours truly,

Haile Rivera
Bronx Resident
14th Council District

4 Councilmembers voted against the increase. 2 - Avella & McMahon said they will not accept the $. 1 - Lanza is leaving the Council on January 1. The 4th, Monserrate hasn't said if he's taking the dough. Anybody know the answer?

Rather than jack their own salary up over $100,000, these selfish pols should think about their hard-working staffers; many of whom make less than $30,000!!! This is an absolute disgrace. Rosie Mendez, how can you sleep at night?

I certainly expect one. Seniors on social security get them. Public employee unions get them.

Those earning the minimum wage don't generally get them, but they should.

I'm not going to declare war on the City Council based on a cost of living raise, which wouldn't have been so monumental were it not postponed for so long for political reasons (like our subway fare increases).

Now a term limits repeal or extension would be another matter.

I agree that this is ethically tarnished.
