I would carry a gun if I so choose; and it would be for for sickos like this.” - Rock Hackshaw 05/22/2010 @ 09:44 AM Gatemouth’s last two columns have been very, very good, but unfortunately, the comments have been hijacked by Rock Hackshaw in an attempt to intimidate me, defame me, martyrize himself, and change history to a version that didn’t really exist. Needless to say, I’m tired of being falsely labeled a racist, a “sicko”, a “nutjob” and apparently, a threat to Hackshaw, his family, relatives, and true friends. Rock, with every escalation of words that you write, you’re coming dangerously close to the elements of libel. Your combination of false allegations towards me, combined with the expressed desire you have of “outing” who I am and tying those false allegations to my person, combined with the obvious malicious intent of those actions, would constitute defamation. I am not in favor of censorship, but you better tread lightly. You better than anyone should know that your words on this site have consequences in the real world. It’s a shame that I have to even say those words to another poster on this site, but it’s time to recognize that the rhetoric from Hackshaw’s side is becoming heated to a dangerous level. Also, the only way to refute his outright public lies about me, is by just as publicly defending myself against those lies. If one day I do decide to reveal who I am, I'd rather that the reputation of this author be shaped by reality than by outright lies and slanderous statements. As I prefer to deal in facts, instead of incendiary, unsupported allegations, I’m going to analyze Rock’s statement above piece by piece.
If you truly believe what you write (that I’m a racist and a threat to your family), then back it up with links and quotes, just like I do. To me, these discussions, with you or anyone else on this site, are simply that, discussions. Otherwise, stop with your false comments, including calling me a racist or insinuating that I am a threat in any way to you or any person you know. I've made a number of comments criticizing Dominic Carter's work as a journalist, and for that I was subjected to repeated attacks by Rock Hackshaw (and his cronies Manny and Mary Alice). Hackshaw's claimed I had a KKK viewpoint, essentially making it a racial issue. Even if one does not agree with my criticisms of Carter, reading them shows no mention of racial issues ... and Hackshaw has no knowledge of my ethnic heritage. So why does he bring it up? Is it like the Hitler card that one deals when they can't win an argument otherwise? Hackshaw is a clown. Sure he has a right to be a pundit (as does Carter). But his nonsense has made him, his views and comments a laughing stock. All the people in my office read Rock's columns all the time. We all agree he is the best writer on Room Eight. You attackers are the ones we laugh at. You envy him and his success here. They picked him to go to the convention not anyone else. Don't let them attack you Rock. Do what you do. We love what you write.
I don't always comment but I enjoy reading Rock's columns. I also sometimes enjoy Gathmouth's although he and I disagree on several things and have had heated arguments several times. As for Carter, his columns I'm trying to ignore since I don't like him for what he did not only to his wife (is he in rehab?)and trying to intimidate a Judge by using his contacts names. I feel the same about Monserrate (and any man who beats a woman) only he didn't use influence except on his former girlfriend. I hope Rock and Gate can cut this crap out. Both of you may disagree with another's column but there (if it's true) should never be a blog name used to knock a fellow blogger. This to me is childish and if anyone needs to hide behind a different blog name they have no right to blog. Gatemouth has used many strange blog names to hide behind the attacks on Rock. I have never seen Rock do this. Not once. I am on Room Eight from day one. Last year I sent an email to all those on Rock's list demanding that Rock kick Gatemouth off the email list. The reason was this. After Rock lost the election Gatemouth made a very nasty remark fo all of us to see. It was horrible. He said Rock has more people on his email list than the votes he won. Rock forgave him. Said Gatemouth was a friend. Well friends like those I cannot use. Gatemouth is the architect behind all this. He could never stand Rock being more popular than him.
I have never written a column attacking one of my fellow members of Room Eight's writer's colony. NEVER. I have responded to many attacks over the years, but I never initiated it; it usually comes after I am savaged by some one of these jerks. I have never written a single column under some fictitious name. I have no fear in putting my name to my columns. None. I always stand by what I write and acknowledge the few mistakes I make. It is a lump stuck in the craw of many of my attackers, who envy the fact that my columns appear to be the most popular on this site and that I have defenders too. They all read it so well that the pour over every word. They are able to quote and re-quote and regurgitate every thing I say. It is sliced and diced and parsed and sectioned. WHY? You have to figure it out yourself girlfren, since I have never done the reverse to them when they write. Many folks have said it is nothing short of ENVY.
Like Rosalie said. I enjoy Rock hackshaw's columns too. I enjoy him more than any other writer here. All this is absurd. Gatemouth needs to stop with his provocation. Gatemouth is far too lenghty and boring most the time. Rock is always interesting and informative.

If my posst gave you the opinion that I thought Rock was the problem I apologize for that. I do not believe that Rock is the problem but that this JP character and Gatemouth are. As time went by, I tried to figure out why this obsession with what I write; so I asked quite a few regular readers of R8 and DG blogs for suggestions. These are the top ten words that come up most of the time: anger, black-electeds, hate, enemity, racism, stupidity, resentment, envy, obsession and jealousy.
I have said over and over that as a writer, Gatemouth has the best grasp on the history of NY politics. I feel that he and Maurice Gumbs gave the best insights into contemporary events and their historical context/significance. People tried to comapere me to both of them and I always said:"I do my own thing; I am me". I never wanted to be compared to either of them; nor to compete with either of them. I have praised Larry Littefield's tenacity and consistency. I have lauded Ben and Gur for their innovations. I have praised Michael Bouldin, David "Mole" Michaelson and Liza Sabater for their contributions. I have also praised Errol Louis, Erik Einquist, Liz Benjamin, Gary Tilzer and others for what they have done in terms of blogging and political journalism. I have written enough self-depracatory things to show people it is not about some ego trip on my part; even though I often get personal recalling political events; that's because I often write from first hand experience. I have been around new York's politics for 37 years. I have encouraged many to write here. This includes Manny Burgos, Mary Alice Miller and others. I brought Maurice Gumbs and Charles Barron to this site. I have spread by word of mouth the utility of blogs for political info, wherever I have gone. I have tried to help develop these sites by encouraging my students to get better informed by adding alternative-mediums (blogs and other sources) to their mainstream media resources. It has never been about ME. And yet from day one there have been a few fools who just seem intent on driving me off these blogs with their personal criticisms, lies, snipes, attacks, sacarsm, put-downs and innuendo.
