The following morning, a store employee reported the crime to police

Lane said he now plans to install surveillance cameras, which he previously didn't think he needed.

Roswell police have not identified suspects in the July 21 heist, but were working to determine Cheap Indian Virgin Hair if the latest theft was related to thefts at a Sandy Springs store in May and June.

Stores in several metro Atlanta counties have been hit by thieves who, in a matter of minutes, make away with packets of human hair totaling thousands of dollars. Investigators believe the stolen hair is then re-sold, allowing the thieves to profit.

In the recent incident, the owner of PD&K Beauty Supply on Holcomb Bridge Road told police thieves threw bricks through the front door of his business, according to a police report. Owner Press Lane told police his wife had stopped by the store the previous evening around 10:15. The following morning, a store employee reported the crime to police.

"It was an in-and-out job," Lane told Channel 2 Action News. "Probably took no more than 10 seconds, if that."

The manager of Buddy Beauty Supply in Sandy Springs told Channel 2 someone broke into the Indian Remy Hair store in May and June and stole around $30,000 in extensions.

Also in June, an estimated $15,000 worth of hair was stolen from Top 1 Beauty Supply on Delk Road, according to police in Cobb County.

Othe stores in Fulton County as well as in Clayton and DeKalb counties have also been targeted in recent months. You've probably seen Richard Mawbey's work without realizing it. The wigmaker has created hair for Madonna, pop star Kylie Minogue and Sean Connery. He's the man behind the wigs in plays like "La Cage Aux Folles" and "Guys and Dolls."

"You shouldn't think, 'Oh, here comes the wig!' " said Mr. Mawbey, 63. "You're not meant to concentrate on it."

But all sorts of things can call attention to a wig, from strenuous dance numbers where actors work up a sweat, to theatrical effects like mist and fog. Microphone packs are typically hidden underneath wigs in live performances, allowing the performers to wear backless dresses or other revealing costumes. Some lead actors are required to have two microphones under their hairpieces, including one as a backup in case the first goes out midscene.

Richard Mawbey has created hair for everyone from Brazilian Virgin Hair On Sale Madonna to Richard Harris's "Dumbledore" in the Harry Potter series. WSJ visits his London studio for a look at how he weaves his magic for stage and film.
