A Few Thoughts on Rush Limbaugh's Latest Faux Pas
People say some dumb things sometimes, and that’s just the way it is folks; remember this. Whether in politricks or poli-sci, (sh) it happens. Whether in casual conversation or in serious discourse, people say some dumb things sometimes. That’s all. And some of these sayings become lore as soon as they leave stupid lips; others move you to anger or even tears; some awaken latent fears. For example; when Hilary Clinton used the “assassination” innuendo to justify staying in the presidential primary, I personally thought it was the lowlight of the entire race. And yet Barack Obama did the most decent thing any US president has probably done for an opponent: he redeemed her. He awarded her the coveted “Secretary of State” job. And this has gone relatively unnoticed. Barack Obama is truly a decent human being. His mother and her folks raised him well.
Back in the day when Jesse Jackson was running for president and used the word “hymietown” to describe New York, I had to explain to a few angry blacks -who were supporting Jesse and thought the Jews did him in- that Jackson did himself in. I told them that the word should never have been in the lexicon of an aspiring presidential candidate. They grudgingly agreed. And now we get to Rush Limbaugh: or should I say Rush Limboo?
Limbaugh is the irrepressible conservative talk show host who boasts of a listener ship of around 20 million demi-fools. He is prone to misinformation and obfuscation. He is talented (in a show-biz way) and opinionated beyond belief. He is way too often wrong in his views -at least in my (non) humble opinion.
He has always been mean-spirited, vengeful, hateful and cruel: qualities which seem to underscore some maladies that maybe a good shrink could one day explain. He goes to places that Sean Hannity and a few others from the Fox News Network often cowardly go -especially when they are critiquing President Barack Hussein “Barry” Obama.
Look; I am no racial ambulance-chaser, but I have come to wonder whether it is all because Barack Obama is only half-white. As I said a couple years ago -in my first series on Obama- there is something historically ironic about the first non-white male president of this country, turning out to be half-white and half-black. It’s is only fitting. Sometimes you really have to wonder if there is a God, and whether or not he or she has a profound sense of humor.
Given that this country (and the world) is experiencing an economic meltdown, comparable -in modern times- only to the depression of the 1930’s; and given that millions of people in America are going through hard economic times -to which “spoilt-brat” American citizens are totally unaccustomed; and given that millions have lost jobs, families, relatives, friends, co-workers, ambition, dignity, hope, dreams and self-esteem, amongst many other wonderful and not so wonderful things; and given that many have died directly because of this so-called “recession”; and given that many have been murdered directly because of this sometimes-called “depression” ; and that people continue to be daily affected by the uncertainty of these troubled times; how could Rush Limbaugh fix his face to wish that Obama’s presidency is a failed one? How could he hope and pray that Obama’s social and economic policies fail? What was he thinking?
WTF!!!!! People really say some dumb shit; don’t they? If wasn’t for the beauty of the first amendment of the US constitution -guaranteeing amongst many other things, freedom of speech to the citizenry- Rush Limbaugh could have been charged with treason.
In order to win some ideologically childish food fight, Rush Limbaugh wishes more calamities on most Americans. In order to win some imaginary battle in political philosophy over big or small government -something that both Democrats and Republicans practice intermittently and interchangeably, in both thought and deed- Rush Limbaugh hopes that average Americans suffer unnecessary hardships. Why? Because he is wealthy enough to probably withstand years of economic hardships; I guess. Ostensibly, the specter of soup lines -a la 1929 thru 1941- is not a daunting thought to Rush Lim-boo-boo. He has once again opened his mouth to let a fool jump out. He needs to stop.
To think that some members of the Republican political party happen to share Limbaugh’s views here, leads me to believe that Republicans need a group bath. You know: something akin to a group hug. They are starting to become nauseating lately. Or does it go back to Newt Grin-rich and Karl Rove? Or was it with Ollie North and Colonel Poindexter? Or Iran-Contra? Or maybe Watergate? Or maybe it started with their collective opposition to “civil-rights” legislation? People; this party of Abraham Lincoln has lost its way.
When the party that hates quotas and affirmative action (the Repugnicans) selects a figurehead black man to head it (Steele), and immediately backstabs him with Limbaugh’s brutal (how fitting Marcus Brutus) knife; then it is time for all good men and good women to start deserting in droves. Sure we need another party to compete with the Democrats, but the Republican party of today isn’t worth the investment. It is time for another political party to emerge; maybe some youngster reading this would pick up the gauntlet.
Anyway; I didn’t want to end this column on a sour note, so I will give you folks some comical relief -in the form of a gem in the area of verbal slip ups: here goes.
Two women were walking home from the subway one evening, when one asked the other: “Isn’t that your husband over the street there”? The other woman replied in the affirmative. The first speaker then went on: “Looks like he is heading home. And isn’t he holding a beautiful and large bouquet of roses in his hand”? The other woman again replied in the affirmative. The first lady went on: “You lucky girl you”. That’s when the other woman got irate. She said: “Lucky my ass! The last time he bought home roses, I had to keep my legs up in the air, every night for a whole friggin week. Shoot! It’s not about luck.” The first woman pondered for a moment and then asked; “Why didn’t you get a vase”?
As I said before: people say some dumb things. Expect more from Limbaugh.
Stay tuned-in folks.
