Senator Kevin Parker and Anger Management Lessons: Will they work?

Last week, in a Brooklyn Court House, far removed from the glare and scrutiny of the New York media, Senator Kevin Parker squared off with his political nemesis Wellington Sharpe ( through lawyers of course), once again. The last time these two had squared off was fall 2004, when they both attended a birthday party for NYC council-member Kendall Stewart, at Cafe Omar in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. This is where Sharpe claims that Parker physically assaulted him for the second time that year. And for the second time Sharpe made a complaint to the NYPD. The first complaint had come a few months earlier, after they had attended an event in Brooklyn sponsored by Haitian-American activists. Don't expect these two to be exchanging Christmas gifts any time soon folks.

The court matter last week however had little to do with these alleged physical confrontations. No sir. This had to do with comments made by Parker, when Sharpe challenged him for his Senate seat (#21), in the 2004 Dem. Primary. Sharpe claims in his complaint that he was libelled , slandered, defamed and such, when Parker suggested that Noach Dear's money was responsible for his (Sharpe's) entry into that race. The implication being, that with a district comprising roughly 25% white voters , any black opponent to Parker increased the chances of a Noach Dear( white/jewish) victory, thus an investment in such a candidacy by Dear would be highly practical.

The last time we saw Kevin Parker grab a newspaper headline, was when he also grabbed a traffic agent about to give him a ticket for double-parking. It is alleged that Parker got physical, while screaming to the traffic agent : " do you know who I am? " It is further alleged that Parker has had confrontations with staff-members and others in the general public also. More than one newspaper has reported that Parker has also had run-ins with police officers, while he was driving over the legal speed limit or while driving irresponsibly. His temper is rumoured to be in Senator Ada Smith's minor league.

Now we get word (again) that Parker has been taking anger- management classes. Rumors have it that he had failed them once or twice before. Well, Kevin will be tested very soon once again. You see, when lawyers representing the two parties met in court for the third time last week, they were admonished by the presiding judge to move this matter forward in a timely manner. If this holds, then Parker and Sharpe will be facing each other again, sometime in the near future, and that's when we will know if Kevin passed his anger-management exams, or if he fell off the wagon once again. STAY TUNED.

Whatever the merits (or lack thereof) of the statements that Parker is alleged to have made about Sharpe, the case will almost certainly be dismissed. Sharpe is a public figure, and it is nearly impossible for a public figure to win a case based upon an alleged libel or slander.

BTW, Rock, it's been charged (by no less than Erik Engquist) that relatives of one close Sharpe associate received payments from Noach (or should I say Noah?) Dear for services rendered to his campaign, which would seem to have some relevance to the comments allegedly made by Senator Tyson (I mean, Parker). I'm not saying you had anything to do with your relatives' actions (Lord knows, even a figure as formidable as Lew Fidler can't control his own in-laws), but since I assume you speak to most of the members of your own family, perhaps you can contact them concerning this matter and then enlighten us on what they have to say about it.

Gatemouth: My father sired 9 kids and adopted 3 more. In 2002 one of my brothers (due to his friendship with James Archibald-who worked for Noach Dear), did some work for Dear's campaign, around GOTV.

 • It is possible that he may have used a cousin or two of ours, to help him in this endeavour. In 2004 ( the year Sharpe ran against Parker and Dear), I know my brother 9the same one) did the identical GOTV work for the Sharpe Campaign. He has done this work for barron, Evans, and other political candidates all obver this country over the years.

I told einquist this many times , but i don't know why this is an issue. I have never had a political relationship with dear. i spoke to his campaign manager two or three times over the years. i have met Dear at various community events, like debates etc. That's it. My lifetime political involvement has been fuelled by my idealism , not by my need for money. Sorry to dissappoint you guys. Anyone can check my reputation in political circles. I help out candidates pro-bono most of the time. Sharpe has never paid me a dime.

Never got a dime from Sharpe? Too bad; it's my understanding is that Wellington's in no need of charity.

As to your lack of conection with Dear; I see no reason not to take you at your word. Nonetheless, it would not be unreasonable for a well informed person to draw the line of connection from Sharpe to you to your relatives to Dear. It's the same sort of thing we do when we draw the lines between Clarence Norman and Carl Andrews, and sometimes, by extension to Eliot Spitzer. There is no connection between between the crimes for which Norman has been convicted and Eliot Spitzer, but Spitzer would not have a justiciable action for libel if Maurice Gumbs or Rock Hackshaw (or Gatemouth) drew the map.

As such, Sharpe has no case against Parker. Maybe he should have sued for the assault instead.

To the voters of the 21st State Senate District, the allegations regarding my opponent State Senator Kevin Parker are quite disturbing. If the charges are true that Mr. Parker assaulted one of his aides by pushing her and then knocking her glasses to the ground and then stomping on them, then Mr. Parker is unfit to continue serving the good people of the 21st Senate District. If he can't control himself how could we expect him to take care of the needs of our district. This seems to be an on going pattern with Mr. Parker. In 2005 he was ordered to undergo anger management training after he was charged with punching a women traffic agent in the face for writing him a parking ticket in Flatbush. Several weeks later a former aide complained publicly that Parker once assaulted her. It is clear that Mr. Parker has no respect for woman, based on his actions. Lets hope that Mr. Parker gets the much needed help he clearly needs. Who knows maybe this time instead of anger management training he might need sometime behind bars, to contemplate his actions, of course that is if the charges are true.

Anger management classes help people to come out of their stress. Anger is the outflow of one's emotions. A tremendous website offers techniques for anger management.

Mr. Parker, is way out of control and the good people of the 21St Senate district should demand better, from their Senator. Please don't reward his behavior by electing him back into office. Send him a message that you demand better, from your Representatives, vote him out.
