Politico.com has a story up reporting that former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, who now plays the no nonsense District Attorney on NBC's Law and Order, is seriously considering running for president. He is being drafted by the evangelical right wing groups who presently don't like any of the other GOP presidential candidates. Romney's a mormon, Guiliani's a New York catholic who is pro-choice and pro-gay rights, McCain is too independent and closet-moderate, most of the other candidates lightweights. Nobody good. So enter Fred Thompson.

This is BAD news for Democrats if true, because he can win. Thompson was a wildly popular Senator for two terms in Tennessee and before that was a well known as a crusading lawyer fighting corruption. He is now known nationwide from his part on Law and Order, where is always putting the bad guys away. Whats more, if you have ever heard Thompson speak, he is an outstanding communicator, plain spoken and blunt.

Lets not kid ourselves, Fred Thompson is a Tennessee version of Ronald Reagan, he's a winner. The GOP gets Mr. Law and Order to run and they have somebody who can get elected President. He's one guy Hillary, Obama and Edwards don't want to have to debate on tv, because he's-- like Reagan-- trained as an actor. As a democrat, his potential candidacy worries me like no others.
