Randi Weingarten tells Paterson to consider her for Senate

Randi Weingarten, local political activist and the longtime high profile head of the New York City teacher's union and now head of the American Federation of Teachers, has contacted Gov. Paterson to tell him that she wouldn't necessarily say 'no' if he were to offer her Hillary's Senate seat.

Weingarten would be an interesting choice.  She clearly has the experience and the intelligence to make an excellent Senator, and the unions would back her strongly.  She also would be the first openly gay member of the U.S. Senate.

If Paterson wants to make a bold, yet unorthodox choice for the Senate appointment, some might think that Randi would at least bring more to the table than Caroline Kennedy.

Now I am ill! Nobody has done more to hurt public education and children than Randi the Whiner Weingarten.  This is the woman who opposes any moves on unqualified teachers and has opposed any and all aid to the tax paying parents who choose not to send their kids to her lousy public schools.  Take a hike, Randi:  we are already the laughing stock of the nation (after Illinois and the Blag's arrest).

You do know that Randi Weingarten is the head of the *Teacher's Union" don't you?  Her job isn't to take politically unpopular positions.  Her job is to defend the teachers who pay her salary.  And these are *public school* teachers paying her salary, so she could no more support school vouchers than a fireman could support *fires*!  Also she doesn't oppose *any* moves on *unqualified* teachers, just those moves that are based on politicians, as opposed to professionals, views on what the definition of "unqualified' is.

Lenny Bruce had a line "and I had to pick today to stop sniffing glue".  I'm a union guy and I for one would be totally fucking apalled by any moron that would appoint her to anything.  But for what purpose or on what factual foundation is speculation extended to Ms. Weingarten?  This brings the blogography down to the fucking Mojave Desert, Japanese trench level.  Jesus.

can't pat appoint himself?? what a lovely way to get the hell out of town to a lifetime sinecure where he can be totally above the fray of filthy nys politics and maybe even do some good for ny and whatever other constituency he may choose to champion.  he would have to be nuts to hang around here in these hard times.

Read yesterday's Daily News.  Factual basis is it was reported these conversations have in fact taken place.  Weingarten is being considered.

Why not nominate a Republican from the state senate and kill two birds?
