Comptroller William C. Thompson,Jr. Supports Ban on NYC horse drawn carriagesAt the Mayoral Forum held by Three Parks Independent Democrats on Feb 11th, Mayoral Candidate and Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. voice his support for a ban on NYC horse drawn carriages. As the crowd applauded, Thompson Jr. mentioned his audit report confirm the suffering of the horses and that the city did not do anything in response. He stated the suffering needs to end sooner. Mayoral Candidate and Council Member Tony Avella introduce legislation to ban the horse drawn carriage industry and a hearing was held at City Hall on Jan 30th in the consumer affairs committee. Avella mentioned how he had to force the bill to he heard. Speaker Christine Quinn, who scored a zero on the humane scorecard, does not support the ban on horse drawn carriage. Carrots to Mayoral Candidate and Council Member Tony Avella who was the first brave politician to stand up for the defenseless horses and for the public safety. Carrots to Mayoral Candidate and Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr for supporting the ban. I wish Thompson was in attendance at the hearing held on Jan 30th to highlight the suffering of the horses his audit found. Sticks to Comptroller Candidate and Council Member David Weprin who is pushing Intro 653-A that will decrease oversight and increase carriage rates. Why is Weprin ignoring the findings of the Audit report that called for more oversight and ignoring videos of the carriage drivers overcharging? I hope the rest of the council members follow the lead of Tony Avella and stand up for what is right for the city and for humanity.
