Inez Dickens Strikes BackIn a strong display of leadership and concern, Council Member Inez Dickens today raised the issue of affordable housing in the Stated Council meeting in the land use vote on rezoning of College Point pointing out that there were no provisions for affordable housing.
The Council Member declared that the City Council must serve in the interests of all of the people of this city, many who are in need of affordable housing. Many of her colleagues joined her and changed their initial votes and the College Point rezoning sponsored by Council Member Avella was soundly defeated. Council member Avella has spent a lot of time in Harlem denouncing both Council member Dickens and the 125th street rezoning and it seems turnabout is fair play. Hey Avella learn to respect your colleagues, their respective districts, and their respective projects and perhaps they will respect you.
huh?
College Point Rezoning was adopted in 2005. Are you sure about this? There's no rezoning on DCP's website even near College Point.

This would seem to be one more piece of a well-coordinated, big fat fuck you to Tony Avella, delivered by his collegues and others who he has pissed off. Which may very well be the response Avella was hoping for. Personally i believe the Politcal landscape in harlem needs to change. I also agree with your term limits argument. I think the tide is shifting in harlem, and young professionals are taking a very active roll in the Harlem political enviornement. This Politcal Club Uptwon Dems has rallied a lot of young supporters. They are not even up and running a 100 percent yet but they already have over 200 volunteers. The club was defunct and there new president has really set them on the right track and has motivated the young base in harlem...
You should attend one of there meetings.... I think they would like to speak to you and use your voice to help get the word out.
WITH ne zoning in Halrem all developers should be mandated to donate money to local charter schools and job development programs. best REGARDS The point raised by Inez Dickens on affordable housing is acceptable & should be implemented to provide house to needs. stair climbing hand trucks
