Jim from the 44th enters the 40th City Council RaceWell look who has entered the 40th City Council Race. Assemblyman Jim Brennan. No he is not running but he has made some waves in the race. This is an email sent out to all the potential candidates in the race: Assembly member James Brennan (44th AD) is concerned about the short notice that was given for the special election in the 40th CD called last Friday by Mayor Bloomberg. The State Asssembly is printing a bill to extend petitioning for the special election to fill the vacancy in the 40th Council District. The bill would extend the petition period by one week and cut the number of signatures required by half (to 500). We wiill keep you informed about this legislation. Why or how will this affect the race? Is this move have any relation to him running for City Comptroller? Huh?
I strongly suspect this is a hoax. City Council elections rules were established by the City Charter not the State Election law. In theory, the State can overide the City but why would Brennan, not in the district or an expert in election law get involved?

Wish Brennan would just say the political reasons why he is doing this. He is always a sneak working behind others. Just look at how many sides he has taken on the Ratner Nets issue. Come on the man who will never be be elected to any citywide office why you are doing this will become clear to all soon. If I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.
brennan is doing this because he is a spinelss, gutless wonder. I think all his recent candidates have lost except Bernie Graham. Also, isnt he looking to run for nyc comptroller. I am not sure that he has reached out to black voters as group except the slope people.
This is interesting....looks like he is looking for a quick headline, whihch he has gotten from this site.
I wouldn't speculate what Brennan's motives might be but part of the 40th is in his district -- I know because I live in the 40th Council district and Jim Brennan is my assemblymember.
He is trying to pull a fastone here folks. First does he have a Senate co-sponsor (republican)? Who said the Governor is going to sign this bill from this patsie who voted for DiNapoli? Get real Brennan you are not going anywhere! People in your own district barely know who you are. You should have just stayed away from this.
Is the aim to help those with no following get on the ballot? Remember each provided over 1000 valid signatures on the petitions, but many got less than 300 votes. There will be more candidates with a lesser requirement which should help that non English speaking Dr. again.
