The Charge of the Hevesi Campaign

THE CHARGE OF THE HEVESI CAMPAIGN

HALF A LEAGUE, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of "The GODS"
Rode Alan Hevesi.
"Forward, the Hevesi Campaign!
Charge for the votes," he said:
Into the valley of "The GODS"
Rode Alan Hevesi.
"Forward, the Hevesi Campaign!"
Was there a drivers dismay'd?
Not tho' the driver knew
Someone had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of "The GODS"
Rode Alan Hevesi.
Republicans to right of him,
Spitzer to left of him,
Impeachment in front of him
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly Alan rode and well,
Into the jaws of Callaghan,
Into the mouth of Page Six
Rode the Hevesi Campaign.
Flash'd all their commercials bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging "The GODS" , while
All New York wonder'd:
Plung'd in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Republicans and Democrats
Reel'd from the saber-stroke
Shatter'd and sunder'd.
Then Alan rode back, but not,
Not the Hevesi Campaign.
Republicans to right of him,
Spitzer to left of him,
Albany DA behind him
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While Alan and Hank fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Callaghan,
Back from the mouth of Page Six,
All that was left of Alan,
Left of Hevesi Campaign.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild campaign they made!
All New York wonder'd.
Honor the commercials they made!
Honor the Hevesi Campaign,
Noble Alan Hevesi!

Ozymandias Hevsi-mandias I met a traveler from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read, Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed, And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Hevsi-mandias, King of Kings: Look upon my Press Releases, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.
