On Tuesday, Liz Benjamin quoted Frank McKay, Chairman of the New York state Independence as saying, when endorsing Andrew Cuomo for Governor.
“I believe strongly that he’ll be the next governor, and we’re proud to hold his coat on the way to the governor’s mansion.”
My advice to Andrew – if McKay or any of the other grifters who run the Independence Party ever hold your coat, check to make sure your wallet is still there afterwards!
Grifters aside, my first take on this was as a reminder of Andrew Cuomo's 2002 comment on George Pataki's "leadership" on and after the Trade Center attacks, in comparison to that of Rudy Giuliani:
"He stood behind lthe leader. He held the leader's coat."
As FDR might have said, "Never speak of coat holding in the house of a man whose coat was hanged." Or tossed across the bed, or something. OK, I can't find a way to pour that particular old wine into a new skin, but you get the idea.
