Sure, Democrats are upset that not only did the screening panel for state comptroller nominate just three people but also none of them were legislators.

But one of the panelists, former state Comptroller Ned Regan, says it was obvious who met the qualifications—and that none of the legislators did.

Asked why no legislators stacked up, he continued: ``They just don’t manage a lot of people. They have small offices. They don’t have financial literacy. Well, some have a bit. ... Look, a lot of these (legislators) are friends. I’ve known them I knew one of them’s parents. That’s not the point. The question is: Are they qualified? Not: Are they good guys?’‘
