See my bill amending the state constitution to provide for merit appointment of judges (Jim Brennan is the Asembly sponsor). We are working on amendments for next year's introduction to provide a "firewall" against party leaders lobbying the screening committees and appointing authorites.

With all do respect to the Brennan Center, their landmark case's remedy (direct primaries) will mean enormous amounts of money raised, more influence by party leaders and profits for consultants (and election lawyers!).
