Harlem
Celebrates Election Night Results in a ‘Jumbo’ Way
WHAT:
As the United States
is on the verge of making history by potentially electing the first African
American President, the Harlem community will
gather in the thousands on Election Night to watch results on a jumbotron
screen. Participants will hear
election results from local and national political leaders as voters are kept
abreast of the night’s outcome.
All are welcome
to join residents of Northern Manhattan as they congregate to watch election
returns outside of the Harlem State
Office Building.
WHAT
Area businesses will provide refreshments and limited
ELSE:
seating will be available at this historic Harlem community celebration.
WHO:
Harlem’s own Congressman Charles B. Rangel
(15th CD) will lead this historic event being hosted by MLK Jr.
Deomcrats. He will be joined by
community leaders and local elected officials to provide state by state returns
as anxious voters await election night results. Also confirmed to be appearing
performing artists Harry Belafonte
and Lynn Whitfield as well as
former NY Mayor David N. Dinkins.
