ASSEMBLYMAN HAKEEM JEFFRIES TO HOLD
TRANSIT FORUM FOR DISTRICT RESIDENTS

Town Hall Meeting will provide residents
the opportunity to voice concerns about numerous transit issues including the
survival of local bus routes and fare hikes

BROOKLYN – Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries
will hold a town hall style community forum
on transit issues for area residents TODAY, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at
Emmanuel Baptist Church
(279 Lafayette Ave.
at Washington Ave.).

Also in attendance at the
forum will be City Council Transportation Chair John C. Liu, 57th
Assembly District Leader Walter T. Mosley, representatives from the MTA and
other city agencies.

State legislators are
looking for ways to stave off massive transit cuts. One option includes placing
tolls on the East and Harlem River bridges as
well as an employer-sponsored payroll tax.

Among the proposed cuts is
the termination the B25 bus which services heavy volumes of seniors and other
passengers along the A and C line, as well as reductions of the A, C and G
subway routes.

Central Brooklyn
is seeing a remarkable population boom. The G train is the main conduit for Central
Brooklyn neighborhoods that have for the past decade seen a higher number of
residents commuting to Manhattan.
The G train – the only subway that does not snake through Manhattan – is the link for commuters from
Greenpoint to Long Island City, to connect to subway lines (A, C, E, 4, 5) that
enter Manhattan.
