NY1: "Thompson Turns To Big-Name Supporters Ahead Of Election Day" - 11/2/09

EXCERPT - On the day of the New York City marathon, Bill Thompson put
on his walking shoes – hitting neighborhoods in Queens in the final
stretch before Election Day.

In Flushing, he brought out local political superstar, John Liu, the
Democratic nominee for comptroller. The two walked from store to
store, meeting all the voters they could find.

“When Bill comes to town he gets to know residents, the small
businesses, even the people waiting for the bus,” Liu said.

NY1: "Mayoral Candidates Make Final Weekend Push" - 11/1/09

EXCERPT - Thompson, meanwhile, spent the day stumping with city
comptroller candidate John Liu and public advocate contender Bill de
Blasio in Queens.

"I've been talking about an affordable city, a city where middle class
voters, where working New Yorkers, where poor New Yorkers have an
opportunity to stay here, an opportunity to grow, have good paying
jobs, have an educational system that works for all children, and
you're not squeezed out," Thompson said.

NY1: "Mayoral Candidates Stress Importance Of Voter Turnout" - 11/1/09

EXCERPT - Mayoral candidate William Thompson stumped through Brooklyn
Saturday morning with fellow Democratic candidates John Liu, who is
running for city comptroller, and Bill de Blasio, who is running for
public advocate.

They greeted voters and held a "get out the vote" rally in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE: "For comptroller: John Liu" - 10/31/09

EXCERPT - Our choice is John Liu, the eight-year Democratic Councilman
from Queens, whose name will also appear on the Working Families line
on the ballot.

Mr. Liu, who would be the first Asian-American elected to citywide
office in New York, worked in the financial industry before he ran for
public office. More important than that, however, he acquired a
well-deserved reputation for honesty and integrity as the chairman of
the Council’s Transportation Committee. His step up to citywide office
has been earned with hard work and a conscientious sense of duty to
the people he serves.

Another worthy reform he proposes: Amending the City Charter to give
the comptroller the power to establish the definitive revenue estimate
upon which the city’s budget is negotiated. That would put an end to
the array of politically driven budget “interpretations” that cause
such discord.

There’s a lot to like in both candidates, but we give the edge to Mr.
Liu. He’s got the background, the smarts and the integrity to do a
terrific job as comptroller.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: "New York City's next mayor needs to stay focused
on what ails us" - 11/1/09

The Asian vote - rarely sampled by pollsters because it's so small -
will be a factor this year because of John Liu's history-making
presence on the ballot as controller.

Asian turnout will likely be double its usual 2%, and it's fair to say
most of them will favor Liu's Democratic running mate, Thompson.
