[MEDIA ADVISORY] Ball: Keep Montrose for Vets, Not Condos
***MEDIA ADVISORY***
FOR THIS FRIDAY,
DECEMBER 18TH
VETERANS ROUNDTABLE: KEEPING MONTROSE FOR VETS NOT CONDOS
The Montrose VA Hospital has been a vital resource
for Westchester and Putnam veterans for decades, but the Department of Veteran Affairs has begun a series of
service cuts as it plans to sell the hospital to a
condo developer.
Local veterans are working hard to find a way to keep Montrose for vets.
Assemblyman Greg Ball is hosting a roundtable discussion
to find a solution that preserves the critical services
Montrose provides to local vets.
Ball is sponsoring two resolutions in the New York
State Legislature that would call on Congress to keep
the VA in Montrose.
The first resolution would seek for Montrose to receive
National Historic Site status from Congress, preserving
the facilities and services.
The second resolution would call for the federal government
to allow the Town of Cortlandt to use portions of the
Montrose campus in exchange for maintenance fees, a
proposition many Cortlandt officials support.
The VA hospital would continue to run with the same
facilities and level of service.
The effected veterans and local elected leaders will
consider the proposed plans to preserve Montrose.
