Today New York Uprising announced that State Senator Shirley Huntley (D-10th SD), Assemblyman Dean Murray (D-3rd AD), Assemblywoman Janele Heyer-Spencer (D-60th AD), Assemblyman Mike Gianaris (D), for the 12th SD, Donna Marie Caltabiano (R), candidate for the 38th AD and Ethan Irwin (D), candidate for the 6th SD have all signed New York Uprising's pledges to reform Albany. New York Uprising pledges committing to bring reform to Albany. New York Uprising has sent pledges to all candidates for office in New York State. Congressional candidates have been asked to support non-partisan independent redistricting since they are affected by the lines drawn.

In recognizing these committed candidates Mayor Koch said:  "I applaud these candidates as true "Heroes of Reform" for signing the three New York Uprising pledges.  This year voters are counting on candidates to commit to specific reforms in advance, as these candidates have done.  I look forward to working with them to see these reforms swiftly implemented should they be elected."

"Voters should choose their representatives instead of representatives choosing their voters," said Assemblyman Michael Gianaris (D-Queens), who has championed the independent redistricting legislation for the last several years and is its Assembly sponsor. "My redistricting bill and the other important reforms included in this platform are vitally important ways to restore accountability to state government."

"Our state faces a crisis of confidence compliments of politicians' content with the status quo and entrenched special interests," said Freshman Assemblyman Dean Murray.  "Thanks to NY Uprising and a determined electorate, we can easily identify elected officials who are committed to reform of state government and which officials are committed to business-as-usual in Albany.  I look forward to working with NY Uprising and the scores of New Yorkers who are fed up with Albany's dysfunction as we work to return the power of the state to its rightful owners: the people.

Ethan Irwin said "I am both honored and humbled by the chance to represent the people of New York State's 6th Senatorial District on Long Island.  If successful, I will fight in Albany to fix our broken State Government. With the help of New York Uprising, I know we can make it happen"
