New York Uprising pledges committing to bring reform to Albany. New York Uprising has sent pledges to all candidates for office in New York State. Congressional candidates have been asked to support non-partisan independent redistricting since they are affected by the lines drawn. In recognizing these committed candidates Mayor Koch said: "I applaud these candidates as true "Heroes of Reform" for signing the three New York Uprising pledges. This year voters are counting on candidates to commit to specific reforms in advance, these candidates have done. I look forward to working with them to see these reforms swiftly implemented should they be elected." Assemblyman Jeffries said "There is no more pressing issue we must confront in New York than the reform of our state government. The people have demanded change, and together with the New York Uprising coalition we will deliver change. The integrity of our democracy should no longer be made to suffer under the crushing weight of dysfunction." "As a candidate for the NYS Senate, 61st District, I am proud to sign the pledge sponsored by NYUPRISING. There is no time like the present for candidates to not only support reforms in our government, but be very clear and specific. I thank NYSUPRISING for their efforts in making this happen," said Marc Cappola. "For decades, the primary goal of redistricting - as practiced in New York - has been to keep favored incumbents safe in their seats," Jane Fahey-Suddaby Said. "As the executive director of a Citizens Union was quoted, 'this practice allows legislators to choose their voters before the voters choose them'. In the interest of fairness, the process needs to be fundamentally reformed." "Now, more than ever, the voters must deliver our government back to us. I fully support, and am proud to be associated with, New York Uprising," said Gerard Parisi.
