Sullivan County has been dying for the last forty years. It needs casino development to revitalize the area.

Revitalizing the economy

Score (128)LikeDislike

I have been a second home owner in Sullivan county for the past thirty years and a full time resident since retirement 13 years ago.
The slow deterioration of the county has been progressively increasing since the hotel industry has deteriorated. I do not see any other industry available that will revitalize the economy of Sullivan County at this time than the proposed Casino and the programmed rebuilding of the Concord Hotel which was inspire by the approval of the Casino during the Pitaki
administration.

agency for town residents questions

Score (153)LikeDislike

I am a resident of the Town of Mamakating in Sullivan County. With all the possible conflicts of interest and hanky panky which goes on at the local level of government I believe their should be an agency or forum where people can ask questions and get answers about their Town Board, Planning Board, and Zoning Boards without having to resort to going to court to determine if the town government and local boards are doing things on the up and up.
In my Town and probably many others throughout the State
many residents can't afford to take local officials to court to justify their actions. I am aware residents can ask their Town Boards to get opinions from the Attorney General or State Comptrollers Office but if your Town Attorney will not ask for an opinion from either office without

Imaginary "State" of New York

Score (-18)LikeDislike

Dear Governor-Elect Spitzer,
The people of Sullivan County, N.Y. have worked hard to educate themselves and their elected officials about the impending casino deal with the St. Regis Mohawk tribe at the Monticello Raceway/Racino.
We KNOW, for example, that the St. Regis tribe is merely a U.S. corporation set up and recognized by New York State in order to perpetrate fraud. In point of fact, the tribe is made up of a small group of people of Mohawk descent and have NO AUTHORITY whatsoever to speak for the Mohawk Nation. I'm part Irish... can I sell the river Shannon to the State of N.Y? Would you sell your country for a casino? There are Jack Abramoffs and Tom Delays in every nation on earth- do we have to do business with all of them?

Amend or Repeal Prohibition

Score (185)LikeDislike

30 DEC 2006, 2234 hours. I think it would be a good idea, in the interest of homeland security and public safety, to repeal the prohibitions against state / political subdivision retirees accepting (without waivers) employment in other state or political subdivision agencies. The legislature should be strongly encouraged to draft, present and pass such legislation. I'm sure the logisitics can be worked out, if only there is a desire to try.

No Indian casinos

Score (153)LikeDislike

Please stop any casinos from being built in New York State. Both Turning STone and Niagara Falls casinos are operating illegally and should be closed. The Mohawks should not be given land 450 miles from their state reservation. Indians in New York have had no sovereignty since 1849 when they asked for protection from the State. They should pay full taxes on gas and cigarettes and be full citizens of the United States and the State of New York

casino approval

Score (178)LikeDislike

Dear Governor Spitzer:
I urge you not to approve the proposed St Regis Mohawk casino in Monticello, Sullivan County.
I know you have received a great deal of information on the negative impacts--economic, social, environmental--that even one casino would have on this community. It's been described by our District Attorney as a rural area with an urban crime rate, where even one casino would push law enforcement over the top. Just this past week, the Monticello Police Chief admitted that the number of gun incidents in the village was "absolutely staggering." Can you imagine the increased incidents that even one casino would bring?

Pardon for inmate Mr. Shane Watson

Score (203)LikeDislike

I respectfully request that you take the time to investigate the case of Mr. Shane Watson, an inmate at Green Haven Correctional Facility, DIN#93A9384, review the evidence pointing to his innocence, and consider granting him a pardon from his sentence of 25 years to life.
Your merciful act on behalf of this innocent man would go far to restore faith in the criminal justice system of our State.
Indeed we want to bring HOPE and OPPORTUNITY back to New York. Mr. Watson holds on to HOPE. Please give him the OPPORTUNITY he waits for!
THANK YOU for your compassionate response.

NO MORE CASINOS IN NYS

Score (118)LikeDislike

Dear Mr. Spitzer:
I oppose the growth of gambling in NY. I oppose the proposed casino at Monticello Raceway. The negatives associated with casino gambling far outweigh the growth in jobs. Unemployment is low in Sullivan County.
Please do NOT APRROVE the casino at Monticello Raceway.
Best wishes to you in your new position!
Yours very truly,
