Casinos

Score (64)LikeDislike

Pataki, evidently under the illusion that he is a dark-horse candidate for the presidential nomination in 2008, has passed the hot potato of Casino gambling on to you, a presently viable and realistic candidate for 2012.
For your own sake, and ours, don't do it.

Improving NY

Score (143)LikeDislike

Gov.-elect Spitzer,
Firstly, as a suggestion to you--considering that you have asked for my opinion, and told the Rochester, NY D&C that you are interested in representing the whole state, not just those who voted for you--their must be repeals of the anti-gun, people control laws within NYS. There must be no law regulating the ownership, or carry of guns, or other weapons within NYS.
The reasons for this are two-fold. First, one would necessarily have to go against the U.S.Constitution to propose that current anti-gun, people control laws that are on the books in NYS, are constitutionally valid. Second, the laws, as written, do not prevent criminals from obtaining firearms. However, they do inhibit, and hinder (see definition of "infringed"), the law abiding citizen. These laws are encroachments (again, see "infringe").

Sexual violent predator law

Score (161)LikeDislike

Dear sir,
I work for NY state and involved in evaluating Sex Offenders. In the past year I have seen the program being set up and the changes it went through.
I think it can be done better and cost effectively.
Prior to the GOVERNOR supporting a law, please consider the following information regarding Sexual Offenses and laws.
1.There are 17+ states with commitment laws for Sexual Violent Predators (SVP). Out of them 2 STATES commit the SVPs for out patient treatment only.
2.The cost of commitment (of SVP) per year, as it is envisioned now in NY State is any where between $175000 to $220000. In TEXAS (where the commitment is only on an outpatient basis), the cost is $30000 (more population and bigger land mass than NY state).

please protect your volunteers and supporters

Score (43)LikeDislike

while the Transition has gone forward, numerous Pataki appointees have began to taunt employees in their agencies who they suspect or know were active Spitzer supporters.Comments like you better hope that I do not remain because retribution will be quick has been heard across state agencies. Many spitzer volunteers have reported such events to each other and are being made to feel vulnerable in this time of unknown future actions. On behalf of these supporters i ask the Governor and his inner circle to make sure that these "Pataki placements" are not allowed to stay on and mistreat those who worked so hard to get Governor Spitzer elected.Thank you for paying attention to this matter. It is a far more serious matter then you may be aware of.

END PROPERTY TAX FINANCING OF LOCAL SCHOOLS

Score (-25)LikeDislike

SCHOOL FINANCING MUST COMEFROM GENERAL STATE REVENUE. End property tax financing of education. School funding should come from general rvenue and be equally distributed cross the state-with minor variations for local cost of living-so that all children have access to the same quality education and people in poor underpopulated areas don't have to bear an unequal tax burden. In Brooklyn where we lived in a house worth 4 times what our farm in Delaware County is worth we paid $1050 a year in property taxes, While in Delaware County (where we now live) property taxes were 5 times the amount of the Brooklyn taxes. This is insane.

Keep Upstate Viable

Score (83)LikeDislike

I am a misplaced Upstate NYer
I still get there when ever I can.
The APA appears to be an enemy of the full time residents of the Adirondacks.
The full time residents of the Adirondacks have been the "Sheppard’s" of the mountains for centuries. They need to have more representatives on the APA board than part timers that have no interest in what is best for the state, only their personal vacation home. Part timers, like me, do NOT belong on, or at,the APA board. Meetings must be open to all full time residents. They are the real future of the park.
To stop the young people from leaving the state, there must be opportunities for them to stay and make a living above the poverty level.

I recently went to a License Express. It was incredibly inefficient. The MA RMV Express has a modern computer system and a much faster process. I would encourage you to take a look at how they do things. The same process that took me 2 hours in NY took less than 15 minutes in MA.

Reestablish an office of state planning to assist and advocate on communities behalf.
“Just as industry plans out where it will next expand or open up a new plant, they would look at the future layout, which involves why and how they will locate there. The military would answer the same type of considerations, along with what they need and want. They would look at the geography and if it were favorable for a base or campaign.” Therefore, Mackaye asks why should civilization not, or governments not plan for new communities and growth? - Benton Mackaye - originator of the Appalachian Trail project

Where's Clean Money?

I do not see full public funding of campaigns, aka Clean Money Clean Elections, in your list of priorities.
You ran on a platform that included this change in our future. I expect you to fulfill that promise! Please add full public funding of campaigns for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Assembly, and Senate, et. al. to your listing!
Without changes in how we raise money for campaigns, the horrendous buying of votes will continue!

I came from NJ and let me tel you, the crimes it brought to Atlantic City was HORRIBLE, We always enjoyed going there but after the casino's came within a year or so , you'd risk your life to go.
I lived on the other side from Montcello, but my Lung and Allergies Dr. is in Middletown and the pollution from the cars and buses will just about choke us out. and how could we get the help we need to live with all the traffic jams. as Far as helping the economy NJ did nothing for us. our taxes went up, and we didn't get any improvements in economy or jobs that helped us.
I hope now that we trusted to vote for the people going in they help us NO CAASINOS needed we are doing nicely getting some good things in SULLIVAN COUNTY dont push them out. Thank you for your time
