No Good Deed Goes Unpunished (Goodbye, Middle Class)
This should absolutely be the last straw for anyone reading the daily tabloids this morning. This past weekend, Yankees team captain Derek Jeter hit a milestone 3,000 hit, which happened to be a home run. Christian Lopez, seated in the bleachers, caught the historic ball. Unlike many others, he returned the ball to the team captain. To reward his selflessness, he was then offered seats for the remaining home games and signed team memorabilia. All well and good, yes?
Bernie Sanders: The Top Ten U.S. Corporate Tax Avoiders - The Daily Bail
I had planned to get into this topic this morning...but I do have a job, after all, ladies and gentlemen. At any rate...I've discussed this in past postings, but let's sit back and let Bernie Sanders, one of the only guys earning his paycheck from We The People, work his magic - take it away, Bernie!
An Idea To Pay Off The National Debt - Tax Financial Transactions One Percent
Got a chance to do some fun shopping at Fairway this weekend. After polishing off our repast, I tinkered with a couple of PCs in my humble abode. Yes...I did say couple. I have one hunk of junk that works best with a Linux installation...but I think it finallly bit the big one. At any rate, I have a very low-tech PC that I use to listen to tunes.
Why Does General Electric Have a ZERO TAX BURDEN?
I've been on a tear in regards to the uneven burdens set upon the denizens of our fair city, as opposed to the advantages of the monied interests.
Exxon's Income Tax: $0 - Mother Jones
I have to post this, dear readers...just so you know where you stand against the "personhood" of a corporation; in this case, Exxon/Mobil. You may not believe your eyes.
Should basic math be a requirement for running for Congress?
I stumbled across a very interesting posting on Facebook this evening:
I thought to myself, "is he really that dumb to put something like this out there for the public to read???" I steadied myself and remembered that this was from Kevin Powell. But there are people that read things online and accept facts and figures verbatim, and worse, four (at last count) Facebook persons that marked the post as "like" and one that left a comment of amazement.
Rush to Paterson's mega-increased taxes: DROP DEAD!Monday's "El Rushbo to New York: Drop Dead" should be read in its entirety. Limbaugh is based in both Florida and New York City, but he's thinking of eliminating his NYC operations and moving to a no-income-tax state like...Texas! "When I am there working I pay whatever, you know, my rate is based on income for that day in New York. And I try to go as little as possible. If it weren't for hurricanes down here, I would never go up there. New York is the escape valve in case hurricanes are showing up in our area, because of the loss of electricity. So I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to look for an alternative studio somewhere outside New York, perhaps Texas -- another no-income-tax state -- and I'm going to get the hell over there, when a hurricane starts coming our way, 'cause I told Mayor Bloomberg: I'll be the first to lead the way. You know, this is just... I'll sell my apartment. I'll sell my condominium. I'm going to get out of there totally, 'cause this is just absurd, and it's ridiculous -- and it isn't going to work. It's punishing the achievers for the mistakes and the lack of discipline on the part of a bunch of corrupt politicians that have run that city and state into the ground for I don't know how many years -- and I, for one, am not going to take the blame for it."
You Get What You Don't Pay ForUnlike noted fabulist Jacob Gershman, now of the NY Post, Dan Janison of Newsday writes a decent political analysis of the governor's proposed budget. I only take issue with the penultimate paragraph that quotes an unnamed Paterson source:
The New State Taxes Are Here! The new state taxes are here! Just in time for Christmas! You must realize two things: (1) once imposed, all of these taxes will be with New Yorkers forever, at increasingly higher rates; and (2) the people who have already profited from the system will make little or no concessions. Pay up, you working suckers still left in New York State! Gov. David Paterson is going after people who wear fur. Did PETA write this tax? Because buying a synthetic garment made out of toxic chemicals is much better for us all. Gov. David Paterson is going after people who can afford boats. If you can afford to own a small boat, you obviously have too much money lying around.

The Dumbing Down of AmericaThe race for President has become nothing more than a reality TV show. The average American’s fixation on self-proclaimed celebrities has brought a man without experience, without sound judgment and without even an ounce of humility a breath away from the Presidency. Despite his oratorical talents, anyone actually paying attention to what Barack Obama says can hear that he has consistently attempted to talk his way around the truth and when that fails, told outright lies. Perhaps those that fail to listen closely will manage to see the smug, arrogant smirk of a man who believes he has already bought his way into the Oval Office. He’s actually the perfect choice for the me-first, take-no-responsibility-for-my-actions dimwit that demands instant gratification and lacks the ability to think a thought through to its logical conclusion.
