Chris Banks Challenges Incumbent Inez Barron on Jobs, Has No Job Plan of His Own

Chris Banks is challenging incumbent Assemblywoman Inez Barron on her record of jobs and developing relationships that Banks said could help foster improvements in the district. “ENY is facing a high unemployment rate,” said Banks. “My opponent has no plan to bring jobs to our community.” When asked if he has his own jobs plan for the district, Banks responded: “I don’t have a written plan. We are working on something.”

Jackie Robinson, first African American to enter Major League Baseball. Arturo Schomburg, collector of African American history and cultural artifacts. Nella Larsen, noted writer from the Harlem Renaissance. Charlotte Ray, first African American woman lawyer. James McCune Smith, first African American to earn a medical degree.

What do they have in common? They're all buried right here, in Brooklyn, New York at the Cypress Hills Cemetery.

The Community Safety Initiative: a 15 Year Retrospective

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN—Fifteen years ago today a major press conference was held on Riverdale Avenue in Brooklyn, NY to launch the Community Security Initiative (CSI), a project that sought to test if local police departments and community developers could work together to solve neighborhood problems, reduce crime, and improve overall quality of life.

The MANY Fools of East New York!

So many fools live in the 42nd Council District. As you read the below post, you must keep in mind today’s date is April 1st. You’ll understand it better. It's very long but blame that on the subject not the writer. And please...don’t read the below alone. It pretty scary, and may damage you worse than watching Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin.Remind yourself after each paragraph that this is not real, much like these fools thought, so many years ago.

POWELL AND THE FRESH-FACED SPOKESMAN

We're seeing the beginnings of the 2010 local election season, with perennial candidate Kevin Powell issuing a statement about the story published in the NY Daily News on 3/26/10.

The statement says, "...When I am in Congress, I will fight for the working people that are the backbone of our neighborhoods."

Powell still doesn't understand that he should never use FIGHT and PEOPLE in the same sentence.

A quick trip to his personal website shows it's currently doubling as his campaign site (we can't wait to see how that looks on his next campaign filing), where you can also buy a copy of "Open Letter to America: Essays by Kevin Powell". Former supporters of Powell still haven't gotten over what happened 2 years ago with his previous book, the one that he was actively promoting out of state while he told his loyal groupies that he was out there "fundraising" (a factual statement when you think about it, in the disambiguous sense).

PULLING BACK THE CURTAIN

A scary man appears before a gathering of people just wanting to go home. His face and booming voice fills the large room, as he spews terrifying words that fill some with fear.

If the above reminded you of the scene in the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy and company appear before the Wizard of Oz, you're right.

But it's also a good description of what happened at the Community Board 5 meeting in Brooklyn on 3/24/10. And as the scary man continued to speak, for many of us, only one thing came to mind--a line from that very same movie: "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. Go - before I lose my temper! The Great and Powerful ---"

Great and Powerful Hack is how the quote should end, because it's time to pull back the curtain on our own Wizard, the man known as Councilman Charles "Chuck" Barron.

Here's what happened: As locals know, Chuckie has been making regular appearances at the CB meetings of late. He does his usual routine:
