Edwards at RiversideJohn Edwards' speech at Riverside Church today was the most direct engagement yet in the 2008 Democratic primary, putting pressure on Hillary's considered stance on Iraq without, quite, mentioning her name. He's working hard to get to the anti-war left faster than Obama, and to confront those who disagree -- McCain and Clinton. One odd political footnote to this: Whoever gets his way in the current fight over surge/escalation will likely pay in 2008 when -- under virtually all predictions -- Iraq remains awful. If it remains awful after a surge, blame McCain; if it's awful post-withdrawal, blame Edwards.
Should Arizona's 9-11 Memorial Be Torn Down?Arizona dedicated its $500,000 9-11 Memorial last month. It hasn't escaped the Little Green Footballs crowd that there are some anti-American statements on the memorial. One LGF poster today even went so far as to say this: "Some facts: "The memorial is in fact shaped in a crescent if you take into account where the names end and the single piece of iron for the rest of the sculpture begins, its a perfect crescent. "The hole where the sun is allowed to shine on the piece from the WTC is in the exact position that the star would be on the Islam Crescent.
John McCain - Just Another PolA while ago, I wrote on one of the blogs that the test of whether Sen. John McCain is really as different as the media wish is true all their heart or is just another pol would be if he changed his position on ethanol in order to win the Iowa Caucus. I think the answer is becoming clear. Here’s McCain’s old position – McCain Also Voted Against Ethanol in 2004, and 2003. In 2004, John McCain voted against an amendment to Senate Bill S 150 to promote ethanol, declaring that ethanol was “a product that we have created a market for which has absolutely, under no circumstances, any value whatsoever except to corn producers and Archer Daniels Midland and other large agribusinesses.” In 2003, John McCain voted to block a final vote to an “energy bill coveted by Iowa farm interests” that “would double use of corn-based ethanol.” [S 150; Aberdeen American News, 5/2/04, S. New School Inflicts Sen. John's McPain
Protestors lined up outside the New School graduation ceremony today to voice their disapproval of the key-note commencement speaker, Senator John McCain. New School students and faculty object to the president’s decision to invite a pro-war Republican to represent their institution, claiming he does not value the ideals they have consistently been taught during their tenures. This sentiment was expressed by a petition of over 1,000 affiliate signatures and a resolution passed by the University Student Senate.
