Rep. Carolyn Maloney, please disband the SEC!

"Many of us have lost confidence in the SEC," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat from New York. (Reported at yesterday's Congressional hearing on Bernie Madoff.)

You go, girl!

"Where can we go to get the proper oversight? I don't have trust in them (the SEC) for the future," she said.

End the SEC! It's useless! It's garbage! It's a complete joke!

I was watching a CNBC special report today, an hour-long investigation of Bernie Madoff. How could he have gotten away with it for so long? There were many camera shots of the Lipstick building on Third Avenue, just a few blocks from my old home on East 57th Street. Madoff operations occupied three floors.

New Yorkers, It's Time to Stand Up for Our Representation!!

It looks like Ellis Henican hit the nail on the head with Sunday’s column about Caroline (Kennedy) Schlossberg’s candidacy (note the title, "How THEY, Elected A Kennedy").  From the beginning, it seemed like something with the Caroline (Kennedy) Schlossberg nomination was fishy and Ellis did a good job of pointing out what it was.

Caroline Kennedy: More Than Just the Camelot Theme?

I need to vent.

Now that Caroline Kennedy has "staffed up" in an attempt to get the nod from Paterson, I find myself thinking more and more...How much is she paying these people? I sure hope that it is not much, because frankly, her rollout could have been so much better.

These past couple of days, traditional media has been blasting the Camelot theme...The daughter of JFK, how he hoped she would serve before she was born, every family member possible doing an interview...over and over, and over again.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Camelot theme...but since someone doing publicity for Sweet Caroline decided to package her tightly around it, the question of entitlement has come up. People are asking, what has she done? Is she just getting all this hype because she is a Kennedy??? And you know what? They have every right to ask these questions. Because that is all they are talking about on TV.

An Ode on Nostalgia and Caroline Kennedy

I've noticed there has been a lot of press recently, a lot of speculation about who will be tapped to replace Senator Hillary Clinton when she heads south to take over the Department of State.  And as speculation goes, besides a smattering of usual suspects, I found this interesting:

Caroline Kennedy?  Caroline, as in, JFK's daughter?

Maloney's Moxie

by Jenny Klion

You’ve got to wonder who are the friends of US Rep Carolyn Maloney. For the 2005-2006 election cycle, a stunning 61.4 percent of her entire donation base was comprised of individual contributions — to the tune of well over a half a million dollars. And among those individuals, many of whom hail from wealthy Westchester County, three of them happen to be part of the executive team at Triumvirate Environmental, a Boston-based environmental/waste management company with new offices here in New York City.

What Part of "You Will Pimp My Pay to $168K" Did You Not Understand?

Granted, it would have been difficult to understand where each of your congressional representatives stood on raising their own pay a couple weeks back because ... ummm ... well ... apparently, so many of them simply didn't want you to bother with such minutia.

Gettin' All Procedural On Us.

In order to have an up or down vote on their salary increases, members would have first had to vote "no" on this Previous Question.  And with a defeat of the Previous Question, Utah Congressman Jim Matheson would have then been able to offer an amendment suspending Congress's automatic pay increases - an amendment, btw, that Congressman Matheson has introduced for the past six years.
