Pitched Preservation Battle to Save New York's Valley Forge

Pitched Preservation Battle to Save New York’s Valley Forge

By Michael Boyajian

There is a scene in a Sherlock Holmes story where Holmes turns to Watson as their train passes through a country village and says this is where the real crimes take place.  That might be the story of the scenic Hudson Valley Town of Fishkill where preservationists under the direction of Mara Farrell and the Friends of the Fishkill Supply Depot ( http://www.fishkillsupplydepot.org/ ) along with the likes of Senator Chuck Schumer are engaged in a pitched battle to save New York’s Valley Forge from the back hoes of commercial developers.

NY's Senators: "No townhalls for you!"

Like most of their Democratic Senate colleagues, New York Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand avoided town halls in favor of what they say are more representative events.

Memo to New York's legislators: You work for the people of New York! Talk to them!

This is really all about President Obama taking a vacation to Martha's Vineyard and dropping the bomb that, oh yeah, we were two trillion off in some estimates and the federal deficit will go from seven trillion to nine trillion. The deficit this year will be $1.6 trillion. My healthcare proposals won't add to that deficit, but the Congressional Budget Office's conservative estimates say that it will add $1-2 trillion. Don't worry about it--we'll tax the rich!

Schumer: "Everybody loves pork"

Chuck Schumer (who's Jewish) brings us the stimulus/porkulus/spendulus quote-of-the-day.

Personally, Chuck, I'd rather have lower taxes and more money in my pocket. I also want to turn over the world to my young daughter with assets rather than debts.

Super Sunday: Johnson, Spitzer, Schumer campaign in SD-7

What's Super Bowl Sunday like for a candidate with an election in 2 days? For Craig Johnson (D-WFP), running in the Feb 6 special election for an open NY State Senate seat means you find a way to keep campaigning all day long.

Starting this morning, Johnson launched the "Moving New York Forward - 33 Stops in 33 Hours" tour. He's campaigning in every one of the 33 villages in the Seventh District from this morning until the election starts, hitting morning bagel stops and popular lunch hour spots and attending religious services and Super Bowl parties.

Governor Eliot Spitzer and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer will campaign with Craig Johnson at different stops during the day. Here's the Johnson campaign's Sunday Schedule:

1. 7am - Let There Be Bagels, Port Washington

Meet Chuck's Imaginary Friends

via Politico

Chuck Schumer, whose new book's zany authenticity has helped win it better reviews than the usual unreadable political tomes, has also got a bit of attention for his reliance on an imaginary family, the Baileys of Massapequa, Long Island, to shape his views on policy.

As another reporter pointed out to me this weekend, however, Chuck has changed the name of his imaginary friends, who are "really" called the O'Reillys and who "really" live in Queens.
