Down outerwear was being manufactured and sold as early as 1911 inside the U.S. however it was Eddie Bauer (of shuttlecock fame) who patented the first goose down quilted jacket in1940; (some sources claim this to have been patented earlier, but the patent number could be traced to February 1940). Bauer was given permission Canada Goose Menn parka to make use of his company logo on his merchandise for the army and went on to supply them with sleeping bags and backpacks.
